You can lock your Nest Thermostat from the Settings menu on your thermostat, or with the Nest app. Locking your Nest Thermostat is a good way to keep guests or children from changing your thermostat’s settings while still letting you and your family adjust your home’s temperature within the range you’ve set. Unless someone has the four digit PIN that you create when locking your Nest Thermostat, they won’t be able to unlock the thermostat or change any of the thermostat’s settings.

You can lock your Nest Thermostat from the Settings menu on your thermostat, or with the Nest app. Locking your Nest Thermostat is a good way to keep guests or children from changing your thermostat’s settings while still letting you and your family adjust your home’s temperature within the range you’ve set. Unless someone has the four digit PIN that you create when locking your Nest Thermostat, they won’t be able to unlock the thermostat or change any of the thermostat’s settings.
- Press your Smart thermostat’s ring, this will open the Quick View menu.
- Turn the ring to go to Settings, and press it to select.
- Turn the ring until you find Lock, and press to confirm.
- Enter a four-digit pin twice to confirm it.
- A lock icon at the bottom of the screen indicates that the thermostat is locked.
- If you want to lock your thermostat in Heat mode/Cool mode, you will need to set a range of the temperatures. Set the minimum and maximum temperatures by turning the ring. Press it to confirm.
- Press the ring on Done to lock your thermostat, or you can select Change if you still need to make any changes.
- While the thermostat is on, press its ring.
- To enter the PIN, simply turn the ring to change the number and press it to select the number.
- The lock icon at the bottom of the screen will disappear once successful.
Your thermostat can be remotely locked using the Nest App on your smartphone or tablet.
- Select the Nest Thermostat you would like to lock.
- Touch the Settings
icon, located in the top right corner. - To the bottom of the menu, select Lock.
- You will have to enter a PIN twice to confirm it.
- If you want to lock your thermostat in Heat mode/Cool mode, you will need to set a range of the temperatures. Use the temperature slider to set the minimum and maximum temperatures even while it is locked. Touch Lock to confirm.
Your thermostat can be remotely unlocked using the Nest App on your smartphone or tablet.
- From the app, select the Nest Thermostat you would like to unlock.
- Touch the Settings icon located in the top right corner.
- Scroll down and touch Unlock.
