1. Introduction: August Smart Lock and Connect: Basic Setup

Control your August Smart Lock from anywhere using the August Connect Wi-Fi bridge.

This guide helps you setup your new August Connect and Smart Lock Pro!

To begin you'll need a working Wi-Fi network and a smartphone.

2. August Smart Lock: Physical Installation

You will need a Phillip's Head Screwdriver.

1. Use the supplied adhesive strip to hold the keyed side of the lock in place.
   

1. Unscrew and remove the screws from your existing deadbolt thumb-latch. If there is an additional back plate, remove that as well. Be sure to unlock your deadbolt before removing the thumb-latch entirely.
   

1. The included mounting plate has two adjustable screw-holes that can be repositioned as needed. Remove the screws from the thumb-latch and insert them into the front of the mounting plate.
   

1. Tighten the screws by hand until the mounting plate is settled securely against the door. 
   

1. Select your adapter from the Compatibility Chart.
   

1. If your lock brand is not in the chart, slide each adapter onto the tailpiece to find the right one. The correct adapter will have the small nub pointing up.
   

1. Place the correct adapter onto the tail piece with the small nub pointing up.
   

1. Pull out both side wing latches to prepare for mounting.
   

1. Slide the August Smart Lock over the tailpiece and attach it to the mounting plate. Make sure the back of the lock is flush with the door. To secure the August Smart Lock, clamp down both side wing latches to the mounting plate completely.
   

1. Press down on the August logo located at the bottom of the face plate. Grab the top of the faceplate and remove it.
   

1. While holding the batteries in place, remove the plastic battery isolation tab. Make sure that the battery is properly seated in its compartment.
   

1. Place the faceplate back onto the August Smart Lock, with the August logo at the bottom.
   

3. iOS: Enable Bluetooth

1. Open Settings on your phone or tablet.
   

1. Then tap Bluetooth.
   

1. Make sure Bluetooth is set to On.
   

4. August Home: Install iOS App

1. From the main screen, open the App Store.
   

1. At the bottom of the screen, tap on Search.
   

1. Type August Home on the search bar at the top.
2. Tap Search to start the search.
   

1. Tap the August Home App to see its download options.
   

1. Tap Get.
   

1. Tap OPEN once the app is installed.

5. August Home: First Time Setup

1. Open your August Home App.
   

1. Tap Set Up My First August Device.
   

1. If you don't already have an account, the Home App will ask you to create one. Fill in the required information such as name and e-mail address.
   

1. Next, the August Home App will ask you to create a security photo. Select or take a new photo.
   

1. The August Home App will send you a text through your provided phone number. Verify your phone number by using the code texted to you.
   

1. After verifying your phone number, the app will send an e-mail to the one you provided earlier. You'll need to check your e-mail and either enter the verification code provided or just click the link.
   

1. Your Account will be created.

6. August Smart Lock Pro: First Time Setup with iOS

Connecting Your First Lock

1. Tap Set Up a New Lock.
   

1. Tap Scan for Locks.
   

1. Name your Lock.
   

1. Next, calibrate your lock by rotating it all the way to the locked position.
   

1. Next, rotate it in the opposite direction until it unlocks.
   

1. Tap the green circle. The App will lock your door.
   

1. That's it. Your lock is now calibrated and ready for use.

Connecting An Additional Lock

1. Swipe right. In the side menu, tap Set Up New Device.
   

1. Tap Set Up An August Smart Lock.
   

1. The App will scan for your new lock.

7. August Connect: Plugging In

1. Plug your August Connect within 15 feet of your Smart Lock for optimal performance.
2. Wait for the flashing green light on the Connect.

2. If you don't see the light, press and hold the button for 3 seconds.
   

What the LED Colors Mean

A steady blinking green light indicates that August Connect is ready to be set up.  Go to Lock Settings and tap Connect to Wi-Fi.

The green light flashes quickly when connecting with your august Smart Lock.  A green light indicates normal remote operations are in process and requires no action.

A solid red light indicates that August Connect needs to be setup.  This can occur when:

• The initial configuration period of 30 minutes times out.
• Your August Connect is on the Wi-Fi network but not setup to operate your lock.
• August Connect is unable to join the local WiFi network

A steady flashing Red Light indicates a communication problem, either between August Connect and your August Smart Lock or between August Connect and the internet. This typically represents a temporary problem.

8. August Connect: Connect to Wi-Fi (iOS)

1. Open your August App.
   

1. Swipe right. In the side menu, tap Set Up New Device.
   

1. Tap Set Up An August Connect.
   

1. Choose a lock to pair with your Connect.
2. Tap Connect is Plugged In.
   

1. Choose your network and input your Wi-Fi password.
   

1. Tap Finalize Setup.
   

9. Android: Enable Bluetooth

1. Swipe down on your screen (or up, if using a tablet) to access the menu.
2. Hold down on the Bluetooth icon to bring up Bluetooth options.
   

1. Ensure the Bluetooth switch is set to ON.
   

10. August Home: Install Android App

1. Launch the Play Store.
   

1. Search for August Home using the search box located at the top.
2. Touch the magnifying glass on the on-screen keyboard to search.
   

1. On the app's install page, touch INSTALL.
2. Review the install prompt that pops up. Once done, touch ACCEPT.
3. Wait for the download to finish. Once done, touch OPEN to launch August Home or go back to your apps to access the new app's icon.

11. August Home: First Time Setup

1. Open your August Home App.
   

1. Tap Set Up My First August Device.

14. August Connect: Connect to Wi-Fi (Android)

In order for you to connect your August Connect with your August Home app and Wi-Fi network via Android, you will need to have a working August Smart Lock already set up within the August Home app.

1. Open your August App.
   

1. Tap the Menu icon.
   

1. Tap Settings.
   

1. Tap your lock in Lock Settings.
   

1. Tap Set Up August Connect.
   

1. Tap Begin Scan to start connecting to Wi-Fi.

2. Select your network.
3. Type in your Wi-Fi password.
