Basic Setup for Your ecobee Smart Thermostat

1. Introduction: Ecobee Basic Setup

We will guide you through the first time setup for your ecobee thermostat. Before we begin, we should first determine how far you are along with the hardware setup. If you've already installed the thermostat on the wall, then we can skip ahead and register the thermostat and begin using it. If the thermostat isn't installed yet, we can guide you through the process or you can have a professional install it and then return here later.

2. Ecobee: Setup Thermostat

Depending on which ecobee thermostat you have, the setup options might be slightly different but the steps should be similar.

1. The first screen after the thermostat boots up shows you the wiring diagram. Tap Yes if it's correct.

2. Choose whether you have any accessories connected to the HVAC system then tap Next.

2. Select your preferred temperature reading scale and tap Next.

2. The thermostat will try to configure your heating and cooling equipment automatically. Make any necessary manual changes then tap Next.

2. Choose a name for your thermostat or type in a custom name then tap Next.

2. Set your preferred temperature during the winter by moving the slider up and down then tap Next.

2. Set your preferred temperature during the summer by moving the slider up and down then tap Next.

2. Select the current mode of your HVAC system then tap Next.

2. Choose whether you want to use the Smart Home/Away feature which overrides any existing settings if it detects you being home during a time when you should be away and vice versa then tap Next.

2. Select your country of residence then tap Next.

2. Select the closest city in your time zone and tap Next.

2. Choose whether you want to setup the Wi-Fi connection now.

2. If you chose to setup the Wi-Fi connection now, then tap on Select Wi-Fi Network then tap Next.

2. Pick your Wi-Fi Network from the list then tap Next.

2. Enter the Wi-Fi Password if required then tap Connect.

2. You'll get a connection status message. Tap Next to continue.

2. Set your time, date and format then tap Next.
   

3. Ecobee: Register Thermostat

Once the ecobee app has been installed, you must register your ecobee device with it to be able to control it remotely.

1. On the thermostat itself, go into the Menu then go to Registration to obtain the registration code.

2. Open the ecobee app on your mobile device and tap on Register.

2. Enter the registration code that appears on the thermostat and tap on Next.

2. Tap in the box to put a checkmark to the left of Accept Terms & Conditions then tap on Next.

2. Fill in your name, email address and password to use with your ecobee account then tap on Next.

2. Choose whether you want the local weather to optimize the operation of your thermostat by toggling the On/Off switch then tap on Next.

2. Do the same for Home IQ which tracks HVAC usage and provides energy reports.

2. If you enabled Home IQ, then fill in the required information then tap on Next.

2. On the Congratulations screen tap on Done.
   

4. Introduction: Ecobee App

To be able to control the ecobee smart thermostat remotely from your phone or tablet, you have to install the ecobee app onto your mobile device and register the thermostat for remote access. The app can also guide you through the installation process if you choose to do it yourself.

5. Ecobee: Android App Install

1. Find the Google Play icon on your Android device and tap on it.

2. Search for the keyword "ecobee" and tap on the found app.
3. Tap on Install and then Open to use it.
   

6. Ecobee: iOS App Install

1. Find the App Store icon on your iOS device and tap on it.

2. Search for the keyword "ecobee" and tap on the found app.
3. Tap on Get, then on Install and finally on Open to use it.
