Basic Setup for Your Ring Video Doorbell

1. Introduction: Ring Video Doorbell: Basic Setup

Congratulations on your purchase of the Ring Video Doorbell! This guide will walk you through the initial setup and configuration of your new doorbell.

Along with the items in the Ring Video Doorbell package, you will need:

  • Your Smartphone
  • Your Wi-Fi Network Name & Password

Do not mount your Ring Doorbell outside quite yet; we'll need to make sure it's charged and setup first.

2. Ring: Charge Doorbell

  1. Using the included USB cable, connect your Ring doorbell to either a USB wall charger, or your computer.

  1. The ring around the front button will glow and fill up slowly.

  1. When the light on the front is a complete blue circle, your Ring doorbell is fully charged.

3. Mobile: Android or iOS

For the next steps, we need to determine what type of mobile device you have.

4. Ring: Install Android App

  1. Launch the Play Store on your smartphone.

  1. Search for "Ring" using the search box located at the top.
  2. Touch the magnifying glass on the on-screen keyboard to search.

  1. On the Ring App install page, tap INSTALL.

  1. Review the install prompt that pops up. Once done, touch ACCEPT.
  2. Wait for the download to finish. Once done, touch OPEN.

5. Ring App: Add Doorbell

  1. From your device's main screen, open the Ring app.

  1. Select Set up a Ring device.

  1. You will be prompted to sign up for a Ring account, or log in to an existing account.

  1. Once logged in, you will be presented with a list of Ring devices. Select the device you'll be adding.

  1. Once you have selected your device, you will be prompted to name that device.

  1. The Ring app will attempt to apply a geographic location to your device based on your Ring account's information and mobile device's GPS. Select Continue to proceed.

  1. The app will instruct you on what to do with your Ring device to continue setup. Select Continue to proceed.

  1. The app will now ask that you exit it briefly to connect your mobile device to the Wi-Fi network your Ring device is broadcasting. The app will display a helpful video that will instruct you on how to complete this on your mobile device.

  1. Once you're connected to the Ring's Wi-Fi network, the Ring app will recognize this and alert you. Tap the alert to be brought back into the Ring app to continue the setup process.

  1. The Ring app will then begin searching for Wi-Fi networks around you.
  2. Select your Wi-Fi network from the list of available networks.

  1. When prompted, type in your Wi-Fi network's password (if necessary), and select Continue.

  1. Your Ring device will begin connecting to your Wi-Fi network.

  1. Congratulations! Your Ring doorbell is now setup and ready to use. Select Continue to complete setup.

6. Ring App: Test Doorbell

  1. While still near your router, push the button on your doorbell.

  1. You should receive an alert on your mobile device showing you that someone is at your door.

  1. If you're in the app, you should see a live video feed open instantly.

  1. Close the video feed.
  2. Go to where your doorbell will be installed (for example, your front door).
  3. Push the button on your doorbell.
  4. Again, you should receive an alert or see a live video feed open right away on your mobile device.

If the video feed is not as good as you want, you can try moving your router closer to the doorbell's installation location, or purchase a Ring Chime Pro to extend your network further.

7. Ring: Mount Doorbell

This guide will focus on installation on battery power where no doorbell was present before.

If you intend to replace your existing doorbell with your Ring doorbell, please refer to the user manual included with your Ring Doorbell for further instructions instead.

  1. Take everything that came in your Ring doorbell box to where you want to mount your doorbell.You will need a power drill, too, if you intend to install the device on stucco, brick, or concrete.
  2. Snap the small orange level onto the mounting bracket.

  1. Hold the mounting bracket up where you want to mount your doorbell.
  2. Make sure the bracket is level by tilting and turning it till the little bubble is in the center of the level.

  1. Using a pencil or marker, make dots on the surface through the 4 corner holes of the bracket.

  1. If you're installing on stucco, brick, or concrete:
  2. Using your power drill and the included drill bit, drill into the surface at the 4 marked spots.
  3. Install the included anchors in each hole.

  1. If you're installing on wood or siding:
  2. You can just screw directly into your wall, using the included Phillips head side of the Ring screwdriver, or a Phillips head screw on a power drill.
  3. Drive the screws though the mounting bracket till it is flush with your wall.

  1. If your wall is uneven, do not attach the bracket so tightly that it bends.
  2. Remove the level by snapping it off.
  3. Make sure the 2 security screws at the bottom of your Ring doorbell are loose.

  1. Line up the holes in the back of your Ring doorbell with the slots on the bracket.
  2. Push firmly toward the wall, then down, until you feel a click.

  1. Using the star-shaped end of your Ring screwdriver, tighten the 2 security screws at the bottom of your Ring doorbell.

  1. Do not lose your Ring screwdriver; you will need that special security screwdriver to remove your doorbell for charging.

8. Ring: Install iOS App

  1. From the main screen, open the App Store.

  1. At the bottom of the screen, tap on Search.

  1. Type "Ring" on the search bar at the top.
  2. Tap Search to start the search.

  3. Next, tap the GET button.
