1. Introduction: Wemo Switch Smart Plug: Basic Setup

The Wemo Wi-Fi Switch Smart Plug can provide a great way to control the power to your lights and small appliances; allowing for not only energy savings, but home automation as well.

This guide will walk you through setting up the software and the general use of the Smart Plug itself.

2. Wemo: Smart Smart Plug: Connect

1. Plug your Wemo smart plug into the wall.
2. Plug the lamp or small appliance you wish to control into the outlet on the front of the Wemo.
   

3. Mobile: Android or iOS

For the next steps, we need to determine what type of mobile device you have.

4. Wemo: Install Android App

1. Launch the Play Store on your smartphone.
   

1. Select the search bar at the top.
   

1. Type in WeMo, then select WeMo from the list.
   

1. Select Install.
   

1. Select Open to open the app.
   

5. Wemo: Android: Connect to Wemo Wi-Fi

In order to setup your Wemo Light Switch, you must first connect to the special network provided by the switch for setup.

1. Open Settings on your phone or tablet.
   

1. Select Wi-Fi.
   

1. In the list of Wi-Fi networks, you should see one that starts with "WeMo", then a product type, and a number. It will not be locked with a password. Select the WeMo network.
   

1. You will not be prompted for a password, your device will simply connect immediately to the network, and show that you are connected.
   

The network password for your normal home Wi-Fi connection has not been forgotten. Once setup, your phone will automatically reconnect to the proper network.

6. Wemo: App Setup

1. Open the WeMo app.

2. The app will start up.

2. Select Let's get started.

2. Select your WeMo device from the list.

2. A short help message will open, detailing the next steps. Select the X at the bottom right when you're ready to continue.

2. A screen confirming your device will show up. Select Next.

2. Your phone will send the Wi-Fi settings based on your last connection and location.
3. Your WeMo device is fully setup, and ready to use!

7. Wemo: Install iOS App

1. Open the App Store.
   

1. Select Search in the bottom right corner.
   

1. Select Get for WeMo.
   

1. Select Open.
   

8. Wemo: iOS: Connect to Wemo Wi-Fi

1. Open Settings on your phone or tablet.
   

1. Select Wi-Fi.
   

1. Make sure Wi-Fi is turned on, then select the WeMo Wi-Fi network from the list.
   

The network password for your normal home Wi-Fi connection has not been forgotten. Once setup, your phone will automatically reconnect to the proper network.
