Basic Setup for Your Wink Hub 2 Wireless Home Automation

1. Introduction: Wink Hub 2: Basic Setup

The Wink Hub 2 is a platform that allows you to connect a multitude of home automation devices that use Bluetooth LE, Kidde, Lutron Clear Connect, Wi-Fi, Z-Wave and Zigbee. Then, you can control all these different devices from one, easy to use app on your smartphone.

This guide will walk you through the initial setup of your Wink Hub 2.

2. Mobile: Android or iOS

For the next steps, we need to determine what type of mobile device you have.

3. Wink: Install Android App

  1. Launch the Play Store on your smartphone.

  1. Select the search field at the top.

  1. Type in "wink", and select Search.

  1. Select Install.

4. Wink Hub 2: Setup Hardware

  1. Connect the power cable to your Hub.

  1. If your Hub is close to your Internet router, connect the Ethernet cable 🖧 to your Hub and your router.

  1. Wait about 60 seconds while your Hub starts up.

It is recommended to use the wired Ethernet connection if possible. It will provide faster, more stable service, and make setup easier.

5. Wink App: Setup Account

  1. Open the Wink app on your mobile device.

  1. Enter your Email address, then select Next.

  1. Enter your First Name, Last Name, and choose a Password for your Wink account. Then select Create Account.

  1. Select OK to open the Terms and Conditions.

  1. Read the Terms and Conditions carefully. If you accept them, and wish to continue, select Accept.

6. Wink App: Setup App

  1. Select Add to Wink.

  1. Select Wink.

  1. Select Hubs.

  1. Select Hub 2.

  1. If you are asked to allow Wink to access the device location, select Allow.

Wired connection

  1. Select Next.

Wireless Connection

  1. Select Connect Using Wi-Fi Instead.

  1. Follow the prompts to enter your Wi-Fi network name and password.

Continue Setup

  1. Select Add To Wink at the bottom.
  2. Name your hub, to make it easier to find later if you add another hub or other devices.
  3. Setup is complete, your Wink Hub 2 is ready to use!

7. Wink App: Setup Account

  1. Open the Wink app on your mobile device.

  1. Enter your Email address, then select Next.

  1. Enter your First Name, Last Name, and choose a Password for your Wink account. Then select Create Account.

  1. Select OK to open the Terms and Conditions.

  1. Read the Terms and Conditions carefully. If you accept them, and wish to continue, select Accept.

8. Network Credentials

In order to connect to a wireless network, you must have the required credentials. These are:

  • Wireless Network Name (SSID)
  • Wireless Network Key (Password)

Finding Network Credentials

Most wireless routers/gateways have a label with the default credentials. If the credentials aren't there, look in the devices documentation.

If your Internet Service Provider (ISP) installed the wireless router or gateway, they might have left you a setup sheet which may have the credentials.

  1. Launch the App Store on your smartphone.
