Fix Apps on a Samsung BD-J5700/BD-JM57 BluRay Player

1. Introduction

Your Samsung Blu-ray Player is capable of running apps which at times may not work as intended. This guide will assist with troubleshooting these apps.

2. Restart App

Press the Menu, Return or Exit buttons on the Remote Control to quit an app then launch it again.

  1. Home - Press to move to the Home menu
  2. Return - Return to the previous menu
  3. Arrows - Move the cursor or select an item
  4. Enter - Activate the currently selected item or confirm a setting
  5. Exit - Press to exit the current menu

3. Restart Device

To restart your device via power cycle:

  1. If your device has buttons or a remote control, press the power button to turn it off.

  1. Unplug it from the power outlet and wait for 10 seconds.

  1. Plug it back into the power outlet, then turn it back on from the power button if it has on.

4. Power Cycle Home Network

  1. Remove the power cable from both your modem and router.

  1. Verify all lights are off on the modem and router.
  2. After 30 seconds, plug in your modem and then your router.
  3. It may take a few minutes for the internet to reconnect.

5. Improve Network Performance

  • You may have to shut down or disconnect other unused devices that are connected to the same network.
  • If your device is connected via Wi-Fi, its distance from the router, as well as well as other environmental factors can affect the quality of the signal. Try moving your router to a more central location or use a Wi-Fi extender.
  • The best type of connection is a wired Ethernet connection. If possible, this is the way to go.

6. Update Firmware

An internet connection is required to perform the firmware update.

  1. From the main screen go to Settings.

  1. Go right and select Software Upgrade.

  1. Select By Online to check for available updates.

  1. If a new version is found, select Yes to upgrade to it.

  1. The system will show the download progress then an upgrade progress afterward. Make sure the device is not powered off during this process.

  1. To complete the firmware update the device will power off and then power back on automatically.

7. Factory Reset

Resetting the device to factory defaults will erase all saved settings, preferences and user stored data.

  1. Make sure there is no disc in the player.
  2. Press and hold the Eject button on the device for at least 8 seconds.

  2. On the screen you will see a message that the device is being reset.
