How to Add a Sensor to an Ikea Tradfri Gateway

1. Introduction

In This Guide

You'll Learn How To:

• Add an Ikea TrÃ¥dfri device to the Ikea TrÃ¥dfri gateway

You'll Need:

• The Ikea TrÃ¥dfri app already installed on your mobile device
• The Ikea TrÃ¥dfri gateway already installed in your home and set up in the app
• A small flathead screwdriver

2. Prep Motion Sensor

1. Use a screwdriver or a similar tool to remove the battery cover of the motion sensor.
   

1. Insert the provided batteries with their positive side outward.
   

1. Replace the battery cover.
   

1. Use the screwdriver to adjust the Day / Night setting.
2. Set it to the crescent moon if you want detected motion to turn the light on during nighttime only.
3. Set it to the sun with rays if you want detected motion to turn the light on during daytime and nighttime.

1. Similarly, adjust the Time setting. Set the light to be turned off 1, 5 or 10 minutes after last motion was detected.
   

1. Press and release the Link button 4 times within 5 seconds.
   

1. Wait for at least 10 seconds since you released the button for the motion sensor to be reset.

3. Add Motion Sensor

On Your Mobile Device

1. Launch the Ikea Trådfri app on your mobile device.
   

1. Tap Settings in the top right corner.
   

1. Select Manage your devices.
   

1. Then tap Add.
   

1. And select Motion sensor.
   

1. You'll be shown a screen with instructions on what to do. We are already covering these steps but you can scroll up and down through them if needed.
   

With the Motion Sensor

7. Place the motion sensor within an inch of the gateway then press and hold the Link button (1) on the back for at least 10 seconds until the topmost indicator light (2) on the gateway becomes solid.
   

On Your Mobile Device

8. You should get a confirmation message on the mobile device that the motion sensor was found. Tap OK to finish.
   

4. Add Light Bulb

1. Launch the Ikea Trådfri app on your mobile device.
   

1. Tap Settings in the top right corner.
   

1. Select Manage your devices.
   

1. Then tap Add.
   

1. And select Bulb.
   

1. You'll be shown a screen with instructions on what to do. We are already covering these steps but you can scroll up and down through them if needed. Choose the control device you want to link the bulb with.
   

5. Link Bulb with MS

To complete the following steps, you will need the light bulb, motion sensor and mobile device handy.

With the Motion Sensor

1. Install the light bulb and power it on.
2. Place the motion sensor within an inch of the bulb then press and hold the Link button on the back for at least 10 seconds until the bulb stops pulsing.
   

On Your Mobile Device

3. You should get a confirmation message on the mobile device that the bulb was found. Tap OK to continue.
