How to Add a Wireless Dimmer to Ikea Tradfri Gateway

1. Introduction

In This Guide

You'll Learn How To:

• Add an Ikea TrÃ¥dfri device to the Ikea TrÃ¥dfri gateway

You'll Need:

• The Ikea TrÃ¥dfri app already installed on your mobile device
• The Ikea TrÃ¥dfri gateway already installed in your home and set up in the app
• A small flathead screwdriver

2. Prep Wireless Dimmer

1. Press the wireless dimmer against the palm of your hand and turn the cover counter clockwise then lift it to remove it.
   

1. Use a screwdriver or a similar tool to detach the dimmer body from the base.
   

1. Flip the dimmer body on the other side and insert the provided battery with the positive side outward.
   

1. Re-attach the dimmer body into the base then press and release the Link button 4 times within 5 seconds.
   

1. Wait for at least 10 seconds since you released the button for the wireless dimmer to be reset.

3. Add Wireless Dimmer

On Your Mobile Device

1. Launch the Ikea Trådfri app on your mobile device.
   

1. Tap Settings in the top right corner.
   

1. Select Manage your devices.
   

1. Then tap Add.
   

1. And select Wireless dimmer.
   

1. You'll be shown a screen with instructions on what to do. We are already covering these steps but you can scroll up and down through them if needed.
   

With the Wireless Dimmer

7. Place the wireless dimmer within an inch of the gateway then press and hold the Link button (1) for at least 10 seconds until the topmost indicator light (2) on the gateway becomes solid.
   

On Your Mobile Device

8. You should get a confirmation message on the mobile device that the wireless dimmer was found. Tap OK to finish.
   

With the Wireless Dimmer

9. Replace the cover and turn it clockwise to secure it.
   

4. Add Light Bulb

1. Launch the Ikea Trådfri app on your mobile device.
   

1. Tap Settings in the top right corner.
   

1. Select Manage your devices.
   

1. Then tap Add.
   

1. And select Bulb.
   

1. You'll be shown a screen with instructions on what to do. We are already covering these steps but you can scroll up and down through them if needed. Choose the control device you want to link the bulb with.
   

5. Link Bulb with Wireless Dimmer

To complete the following steps, you will need the light bulb, wireless dimmer and mobile device handy.

With the Wireless Dimmer

1. Press the wireless dimmer against the palm of your hand and turn the cover counter clockwise then lift it to remove it.
   

1. Install the light bulb and power it on.
2. Place the wireless dimmer within an inch of the bulb then press and hold the Link button on the front for at least 10 seconds until the bulb stops pulsing.
   

1. Replace the cover and turn it clockwise to secure it.
   

On Your Mobile Device

5. You should get a confirmation message on the mobile device that the bulb was found. Tap OK to continue.
