Changing your ringtone is a fast and easy way to customize your iOS device, and it adds a bit of fun and personality. It also makes it easier for you to recognize your phone ringing in a social setting or in public, rather than someone else's. This guide will walk you through changing your general, as well as your per contact ringtones.

1 Change General Ringtone

  1. Open Settings.
    iOS Settings.
  2. Tap on Sounds or Sounds & Haptics.

  3. Scroll down and tap on Ringtone.

  4. You will be presented with the list of ringtones your iPhone has available. To hear or preview one, simply tap on it. The currently selected ringtone will have a blue check mark to the left of its name. When you have selected the ringtone you'd like to use, tap the Sounds & Haptics button in the upper-left corner of your screen.

  5. You will be returned to the previous screen. You should see your newly selected ringtone in the Ringtone field.

  1. Open the Phone app.
    iOS Phone app.
  2. Tap Contacts at the bottom of the screen then look for and tap the contact for which you want to change the ringtone.

  3. With the contact showing, tap Edit.

  4. Tap Ringtone.

  5. Scroll through the list of ringtones then tap one to hear it play and set it as the new sound.
