Changing your ringtone is a fast and easy way to customize your iOS device, and it adds a bit of fun and personality. It also makes it easier for you to recognize your phone ringing in a social setting or in public, rather than someone else's. This guide will walk you through changing your general, as well as your per contact ringtones.
1 Change General Ringtone
- Open Settings.
- Tap on Sounds or Sounds & Haptics.
- Scroll down and tap on Ringtone.
- You will be presented with the list of ringtones your iPhone has available. To hear or preview one, simply tap on it. The currently selected ringtone will have a blue check mark to the left of its name. When you have selected the ringtone you'd like to use, tap the Sounds & Haptics button in the upper-left corner of your screen.
- You will be returned to the previous screen. You should see your newly selected ringtone in the Ringtone field.

- Tap Contacts at the bottom of the screen then look for and tap the contact for which you want to change the ringtone.
- With the contact showing, tap Edit.
- Tap Ringtone.
- Scroll through the list of ringtones then tap one to hear it play and set it as the new sound.
- Tap Done to save your settings.
