How to Check Connection on Nintendo Switch

1. Introduction

Like all modern video game consoles, including your Nintendo Switch, you can connect to the internet in order to play with friends, download and purchase new games, and enjoy sharing your experience with others online. Checking your Nintendo Switch's connection to the internet is quick and easy to do.

Out of the box, your Nintendo Switch can only connect to the internet via Wi-Fi. An additional USB accessory can be purchased to allow the Switch to make use of a hardwired Ethernet connection.

2. Am I Connected to a Network

You can see whether or not you are connected to a network by following these steps.

  1. Select the System Settings icon.

  1. Scroll down and select Internet.

  1. Depending on you connection status, you will see one of the following:
  2. Connected
Connected to network
  1. Not Connected
Not connected to network

3. Connection Test

  1. Select the System Settings icon.

  1. Select Test Connection.

  1. When the test is complete you will get one of the following:
  2. Successful Connection
Successful Connection Test
  1. Failed Connection
Failed Connection Test

If the connection failed:
Navigate to https://www.nintendo.com/consumer/network/en_na/network_status.jsp to check the status of Nintendo's online services.
