ecobee.

2. Location Compatibility

For the ecobee Switch+ to be compatible with the location where you intend to install it in, ensure the following:

  • The switch is going to control lights only. It is not designed to be used with any motor loads, like ceiling fans.
  • The lights have to be controlled by one switch with a single pole connection. The switch doesn't work with three-way locations or lights controlled from two switches.
  • The lights have to be rated at a maximum of:
  • 600W for incandescent bulbs.
  • 150W for fluorescent (tube or compact) or LED bulbs.
  • The electrical voltage in your location is no higher then 120V AC.
  • The following wires have to be in place:
electrical wires pointed out and annotated for compatible light switch.
  • Line and load wires (black or red) - are connected to your existing switch.
  • Ground wire (exposed copper or green) - typically comes from the wall box.
  • Neutral wire (white) - is required and typically comes in a pair fastened together by a wire nut.

The ecobee Switch+ only allows turning the lights on and off. To dim your lights you can install dimmable smart bulbs and ask the built-in Alexa to help with that.
