Many modern desktops now come with wireless cards and internal bluetooth adapters, allowing you to easily cast or send your desktop to your big screen. However, if your computer doesn't come with that technology, you can easily use a Wireless Video Adapter to do the same thing.

What Is a Wireless Adapter Kit

Wireless video adapter kits vary in shape, size and connectivity. Refer to the computer's and display device's documentation to ensure you match the audio/video output and input ports they have.

A wireless video adapter will essentially connect the your computer and television using the same audio/video ports you would use when connecting a cable between them. The computer needs to be connected to the wireless transmitter, whereas the display device needs to be connected to the wireless receiver.

Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter

Microsoft has their own video adapter kits, set up especially for Windows computers.

Their adapter uses an HDMI and USB input connected into your Smart TV to enable it to connect to your Windows computer. Then, using Miracast on your Windows system, you would send your desktop to your TV.

Wireless HDMI extenders send HDMI data wirelessly between a transmitter and receiver, letting you connect your computer to a nearby small box with a short HDMI cable, and your TV to another nearby small box with another nearby HDMI cable. This way you're not stringing cables across your house but still get the same effect. Unfortunately, these extenders are expensive and can have considerable lag. That's not a problem if you're watching movies but if you're playing a game it can cause issues.

1. Have both your computer and television plugged in and turned on. You do not need to have either device turned off to plug in the adapter.
2. Your Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter needs to be plugged into a USB and an HDMI port on your television.

2. If it doesn't, you can still click The Action Center.
