How to Create/Configure a WiFi Network with your Motorola MG7540

1. MG7540: WiFi Overview

Introduction

Let's start by defining some terms we will be using throughout this guide:

Service Set Identifier (SSID): this is simply the name of your network. All wifi routers and modem/router combos capable of creating a wifi network will allow you to change the SSID. For example, if you go to a friend's house and connect your phone to a network named "BFF", the SSID of that network is "BFF". Easy, right?

If you do not care about changing the SSID/Password/Security Settings, there will be a label on the bottom of this unit with all of the information necessary to connect to the pre-configured wireless network. Bear in mind that anyone could come along and simply read the same label to gain access to your network, so it is strongly recommended you set up your own SSIDs and passwords.

2.4/5.0 GHz Bands: some routers can create two different networks, each communicating at a different frequency with separate SSIDs and passwords. For more information about the difference (and for pointers as to which band you should use) click here.

3. MG7540: Control Panel Main Screen

Once logged in to the router's control panel, you should see a screen that looks like this:

Here you can change your SSID (network name) and the password for both the 2.4 and 5.0 GHz networks. A good rule of thumb here is to note which one is which. For example, if you're changing the network names to "I_M_AWESOME", you should make the 2.4 GHz  network "I_M_AWESOME2.4" and the other "I_M_AWESOME5.0"

You can also see if your device is connected to the internet and the address numbers assigned to the modem.
