How to Factory Reset a Nintendo Switch

1. Introduction

There are times when you may need to completely erase and restore your Nintendo Switch. You could want to give it or sell it to someone else or troubleshooting an issue could lead you to needing a full restore. These are a couple ways to restore your Switch, depending on what issues you're having with it and this guide will help with the process.

Resetting your console to its factory settings erases all accounts, saved games, and settings.

2. Factory Reset

  1. Open System Settings on the HOME Menu.

  1. Select Restore Factory Settings.

3. Enter Recovery Mode

  1. Hold down the Power Button for at least 12 seconds until the Switch Console turns off.

  1. Once the Switch has been completely powered off, press and hold both the Volume Down and Volume Up buttons.

4. Factory Reset via Recovery Mode

  1. Once in Recovery Mode, select your method of factory reset.
  2. If you want to keep save data, screenshots, and user information, choose to Factory Reset Without Deleting Save Data.
