1. Introduction: August Smart Lock: Factory Reset

A factory reset will reset the August Lock system back to default settings. This is typically done when there is a problem that can only be fixed with a reset or if you want to sell or give it away.

Factory resetting the lock will erase all guest and owner data, restoring it back to its original condition. It will also remove the lock from any owners' or guests' keychain. You will need to start over, and re-setup your August Smart Lock.

2. August: Ownership Check

Because of the secure nature of the August Lock, factory resetting the device requires the current owner, or assistance from the previous owner and the company.

3. Mobile: Android or iOS

For the next steps, we need to determine what type of mobile device you have.

4. August: Factory Reset Android

  1. Select the Menu Button.

5. August: Re-Setup?

Factory reset removes everything from your August Smart Lock. In order to use it again, you will need to re-setup the device.

7. August: Factory Reset iOS

  1. Select the Settings Gear above the lock circle.

8. August: Factory Reset (Not Current Owner)

The August Smart Lock is a security product, so there are some extra security checks involved in factory resetting and starting to use the product.

  1. On your computer, visit http://support.august.com/customer/portal/emails/new.
  2. Write a message indicating your recent acquisition of the Smart Lock from a previous owner. Be sure to include:
  3. Smart Lock Serial Number (on the back of the device).
  4. Valid proof of purchase (if possible).

The August support team will contact the original owner, then perform the factory reset for you.
