How to Factory Reset Your Nest Smart Thermostat

1. Introduction: Nest Smart Thermostat: Factory Reset

You may wish to reset your Nest Smart Thermostat as part of a troubleshooting step or other reasons. A factory reset will undo any learning and remove all personal settings. Once you reset, you'll need to go through setup again and also add the thermostat back on to your Nest Account.

Before doing the factory reset, your thermostat must be removed from your Nest Account.

2. Nest: Remove Device from Nest Account

You can remove your Nest device (Thermostat, Cam, Dropcam, etc) from your Nest Account within the Nest app. Whether you’re using a computer or mobile phone, the steps are the same.

  1. To remove a Nest device from your Nest Account, log into your account with the Nest app.
  2. If you have multiple homes registered on the app, tap the Menu icon in the top left corner of the app home screen, then select the home that has the device you’d like to remove.

  1. Tap the device you’d like to remove on the app home screen.
  2. Tap the Settings icon in the upper right hand corner.

  1. Scroll down and select Remove.
  2. You’ll then be asked to confirm your choice.

  1. The device has been removed from the Nest account.

3. Nest Smart Thermostat: Factory Reset

  1. Press your thermostat ring to open the Quick View menu.
  2. Choose the Settings icon.
  3. Turn the ring to Reset and press to select.
  4. Turn the ring to All Settings and press to select.

  1. Wait a few minutes to reset your Nest thermostat.
  2. At this point you may set it up again just like you did when you first installed it.Once the reset is done, you can add your thermostat back to your Nest Account.
