How to Fix Cortana Speech Recognition on Windows 10

1. Introduction
Windows 10 does a fair job of correcting many problems it has on its own, but there are a couple faults that can still cause issues. At times, Cortana and the Speech Recognition system can stop functioning correctly.
This guide will walk you through correcting this problem.
2. Cycle Cortana
Turn off Windows Speech Recognition by saying "stop listening."
Start Cortana by selecting the search box on the task bar.
Select I agree to opt in to Cortana if needed.
Turn Windows Speech Recognition back on by pressing Ctrl + Windows Logo, or by saying "start listening."
3. Set Up Microphone
Set Your Default Mic
Right-click the Speaker icon.
Select Open Sound Settings.
Make sure the microphone you're using is the correct one listed.
Set Up Your Microphone
Select the Start Menu.
Type "Set Up Mic" in the search bar.
You’ll be prompted to read a sentence for the recognition software to learn your voice.
Once done, your mic will be set up.
4. Disable Microphone Enhancements
Right-click the Speaker icon.
Select Open Sound Settings.
Under Input, select Device Properties.
Make sure Disable All Enhancements is checked under Enhancements.
