1 Reasons for the Pairing Attempts

Whenever a sensor pairing message is displayed on your ecobee smart thermostat, look for the 4-Digit ID displayed on the message. This is the ID of the room sensor that your ecobee smart thermostat is attempting to pair with. Ensure that this ID does not match any of your current room sensors.

If the ID does match one your sensors, this repeated pairing request may simply be an error. We'll check your thermostat's firmware version to make sure it is up-to-date. If no firmware update is available, the sensor can be added to the Ignored Sensors list to prevent further pairing requests.

2 Check Firmware Version

To Check the Firmware Version

  1. Wake your ecobee Thermostat, then tap Menu.
Main menu icon for the ecobee
  2. Tap About.
    About menu
  3. Look for the number listed under Version.
    Firmware version number
  • For an ecobee3, ensure you are running firmware version 4.2.0.394 or higher,
  • For an ecobee3 Lite, ensure you are running firmware version 4.2.0.392 or higher.
  • For an ecobee4, ensure you are running firmware version 4.2.0.171 or higher.

If your firmware version is not up to date, please contact ecobee support to request a firmware upgrade. Please have your ecobee's serial number ready (found under MAIN MENU > ABOUT) or your ecobee's registered email address.

If you live in a populated area, a neighbor may also own an ecobee smart thermostat. Your ecobee unit may simply be detecting the sensor of a neighbor & is repeatedly attempting to pair with it. This is a great example of a sensor that should be added to the Ignored Sensors list.

To Ignore a Room Sensor

  1. When your thermostat asks to pair with a sensor you no longer wish to receive pairing prompts for, tap No, Don't ask again.
    No, don't ask again button
  2. Tap Yes, Ignore.

  3. The sensor that your thermostat was attempting to pair with has now been added to the Ignored Sensors list, and you will no longer receive prompts to pair with it.
