How to Fix Fail Update C by GE C-Reach Smart Bridge

1. Introduction

The C by GE app is used to regularly update the firmware of your C by GE Smart Bridge. If your smart bridge fails to update, this may mean that there was a problem with your internet connection at the time, or there may actually be an issue with the smart bridge itself. Because the smart bridge is a simple device, there are not many troubleshooting steps involved when an update fails.

This guide will take you through the process of restarting your smart bridge. If the update still fails to apply, the smart bridge must be fully reset. Once reset, the C by GE app can be used to attempt to update the smart bridge again.

Tools You'll Need:

  • A paperclip
  • iPhone charging cable
  • Access to a computer with iTunes installed
  • Any other non-consumable tools needed
  • Comment out tools section if no tools are necessary

2. Restart Your C by GE Smart Bridge

  1. Unplug the smart bridge from the wall outlet.

  1. Plug the Bridge back into the outlet and wait for it to reconnect to the app.
  2. Attempt to update the smart bridge again.

3. Reset Your C by GE Smart Bridge

If the update process still fails after restarting the smart bridge, resetting it is the next course of action.

  1. Unplug the C-Reach Smart Bridge from the power outlet.
  2. While holding the side button, plug the smart bridge back into the power outlet and keep holding the button for at least 10 seconds.

  1. If the reset is successful, the three indicator lights will start blinking meaning the smart bridge is ready to be set up again.
  2. Now that the smart bridge has been reset, it is ready to attempt the update process again.
