How to Fix Image Ghosting on an LG Smart TV

Authored by: Support.com Tech Pro Team

1. Introduction

If you occasionally see images following people on your television screen, there could be a ghosting problem with your Smart TV. You may see a doubling or tripling of the screen image, dark patches on screen, or a picture that appears to be lagging or smudged on one side. The problem may become more prominent when you are watching sports or anything with fast moving images.

Image ghosting is a relatively common problem with LCD TV technology and can be extremely annoying when it crops up. This guide will help you try to resolve this issue with your LG Smart TV.

2. Test Other Media

Try using a different streaming service, a different show on the same streaming service, or a different disk.

3. Reset cables (HDMI)

  1. Turn your TV off.
  2. Unplug your HDMI cable.
  3. If you have another HDMI cable available, try using it instead of the cable that's currently in-place.

4. Determine Platform

We must determine which platform is loaded on your LG Smart TV before beginning. Newer TVs released after 2014 will have webOS. Older models released between 2011 and 2015 will have NetCast. See the images below to help tell the difference.
