How to Fix Roku Ultra Remote

The Roku remote allows you to navigate your Roku devices menu, manage its settings and control playback of its video and audio content. If your Roku device doesn't respond or responds erratically to button presses on the remote, following are some troubleshooting steps that may resolve your issue.

2. Determine Remote Type

To determine whether you have the Standard or Enhanced Roku Remote:

  • Enhanced “point-anywhere” remotes have a pairing button,
  • Standard IR (infrared) remotes do not have a pairing button.

3. Aim IR Remote Correctly

  1. Make sure that there are no obstructions between your remote and the TV.

  1. Point the remote directly at the TV or at an optimal distance.

4. Check Batteries

If your remote is unresponsive or responding intermittently:

  1. Open the battery cover and remove the batteries.
  2. Insert the batteries observing the proper orientation as indicated in the battery compartment.

You can use any device with a digital camera and a live display, such as a handheld camera, computer webcam, smartphone or tablet camera, to test the infrared emitter in your remote.

  2. You should see a flashing purple light as you press and hold the button.
