If your device software doesn’t update successfully, you may encounter one of several situations. The device might display an error message or error code during or following the update, or the device might not start correctly after the update is complete or a connection issue may be causing issues. Do not turn off or unplug your system while the update is downloading or installing. If the system update is interrupted by unplugging the system, you may damage the system.
2. Restart
Press and hold the Power Button on the front of the device until the Wii U powers off.
If your Wii U does not power off, unplug the power cable from the wall outlet, wait 15 seconds, then plug it back in.

From the Wii U Menu, select System Settings.

Select your Internet connection from the list.
