How to Install OBS Streaming Software on a Mac

Introduction

OBS, or Open Broadcaster Software, is a free, open source software package that allows you to record or stream what's displayed on your computer screen, as well as other sources. You can stream to services such as YouTube or Twitch, and record in a variety of different formats to either edit later or publish to video sharing websites. This guide will walk you through installing the software on a Mac.

1 Install OBS Studio for macOS

  1. Open your preferred browser, and visit the OBS Studio homepage.

  2. On the OBS page, select the button for macOS to download the latest version.

  3. Once downloaded, open the package.

  4. In most cases, security preferences will prevent you from installing the package from the web. Select OK.

  5. Select the Apple menu, and select System Preferences.

  6. In System Preferences, select Security & Privacy.

  7. On the General tab, at the bottom, your Mac will remember you just tried to open the OBS installer. Select Open Anyway.

  8. Your Mac will ask if you are sure, select Open.

  9. The Installer Welcome screen will open, select Continue.

  10. For the Destination, select your primary mac drive, and select Continue.

  11. The installer will tell you how much space is needed. Select Install.

  12. Your Mac will ask permission to install the software. Enter your Mac password and select Install Software.

  13. Once complete, select Close.

  14. With OBS installed, we don't need the installer any longer. Select Move to Trash.

Opening OBS

OBS installs to your Applications folder.

  1. Select Finder. From the menu at top, select Go, then Applications.
