Introduction
Before You Begin:
- Be near your smartphone or computer.
- If using your computer, it must support Bluetooth.
Most modern computers with WiFi support also have Bluetooth Support.
1 Enable Bluetooth on your Device
Bluetooth is a short-range wireless communication method, and can be turned on and off easily because it does take battery power.
Select your Operating System below to find the quick way to enable Bluetooth on your device.
Windows
- Select the Notifications Center.The Notifications Center is next to the clock, usually in the bottom right corner of your screen.
- At the bottom of the Notifications Center, make sure Bluetooth is turned on.
Bluetooth Off Bluetooth On - Once turned on, a new Bluetooth icon will appear in your System Tray, to make it easier to control your Bluetooth-connected devices.You may need to expand your System Tray, as shown in the image, to see the Bluetooth icon.
Apple macOS
- Open the Apple menu, then select System Preferences.
- Select Bluetooth.
- Select Turn On Bluetooth.
- It is also recommended to select Show Bluetooth in menu bar, to make it easier to manage your Bluetooth devices in the future.
- You may then access Bluetooth from the menu bar on the top-right at any time to manage your devices.
Android
- Open Settings, and select Connected Devices.
- Select Bluetooth.
- Make sure Bluetooth is turned On.

- Open Settings, and select Bluetooth.
- Make sure the switch is turned On for Bluetooth.

2 Install the Fitbit App on your Device
The Fitbit app is available for the vast majority of devices.
Select your Operating System below for instructions to install the Fitbit App on your device.
Windows
- Open the Windows Store, search for "Fitbit", and select Fitbit from the list.The Windows Store is available on your Taskbar at the bottom of your screen, or in the Windows Start Menu.
- Select Install.
- Once installed, Fitbit will be available in your Start Menu.
Apple macOS
- Open your preferred browser, and browse to the Fitbit Setup page, or click the link below.
Fitbit Setup Download
- Scroll down the page, and select Download for Mac.
- Once the download completes, open the downloaded file.
- In the disk image, select Install Fitbit Connect.
- On the welcome screen for the installer, select Continue.
- Carefully read the End-User License Agreement. When you are ready and if you agree, select Continue.
- Confirm you agree with the End-User License Agreement by selecting Agree.
- You'll be asked if you're ready to install, select Install.
- Fitbit needs to add items to the system that run on startup, and needs your authorization to do so. Enter your Mac's password, and select Install Software.
- Fitbit needs to add a system event for when you connect your Fitbit. Select OK.
- Once Fitbit is installed, select Close.
- You'll be asked if you want to trash the Installer. Since it's installed, we do not need the installer any longer. Select Move to Trash.
- Once installed, you can find Fitbit Connect in your Finder's Apps folder.
Android
- Open the Play Store, then select the Search Bar at the top.
- Type in Fitbit, then select Fitbit from the list.
- Select Install.
- Select Open to open the app.
Apple iOS
- Open the App Store and select Search in the bottom right corner.
- Type in Fitbit, and select Fitbit in the list.
- Select Get or Cloud Install for Fitbit.
- Select Install.
- Select Open.
3 Pair a Bluetooth Device to your System
Pairing a Bluetooth device such as a smartwatch, fitness tracker, headset, or speaker to your system is fast and easy.
Set your Device to Pairing Mode
Pairing Mode lets your Bluetooth device find a new device to connect to. Most Bluetooth devices make it simple to enter Pairing mode, but it does vary from device to device.
- Turn off your headset or speaker.
- Push and hold the power button to turn the device back on, but do not let go of the power button.
- The speaker or headset will make a second tone after a few seconds indicating it's in Pairing Mode.
- Release the power button.
- Push and hold the pairing button for a few seconds.
- If there is no pairing button, turn the device off, then back on, and it should be in Pairing Mode.
- Turn off the device.
- Turn on the device. It should enter Pairing Mode after a few moments.
Pair the Bluetooth Device to Your Computer or Smartphone
Select your Operating System below for instructions to pair a Bluetooth device to your system.
Windows
- Select the Bluetooth icon in your System Tray.You may need to expand your System Tray, as shown in the image, to see the Bluetooth icon.
- Select Add a Bluetooth Device.
- Select Add Bluetooth or other device.
- Select Bluetooth.
- Select your Bluetooth device from the list.
- Once complete, select Done.
- You can manage your Bluetooth device from the same place; should you need to adjust settings of the connection, disconnect, or forget the device.
Apple macOS
- Open the Apple menu, then select System Preferences.
- Select Bluetooth.
- Select Connect for your Bluetooth device.
- After a few moments, your Bluetooth device will be connected.
- To disconnect or change settings, you can use the Bluetooth icon in your menu bar, and point to the device you're connected to.
Android
- Open Settings, and select Connected Devices.
- Select Bluetooth.
- Select your Bluetooth device from the list of Available Devices.
- Your Android device will connect, and now show under Paired Devices.
- To manage your Bluetooth devices in the future, return to Bluetooth settings, select the gear next to the Bluetooth device to change settings or to have your Android device forget the connection.
Apple iOS
- Open Settings, and select Bluetooth.
- Select your Bluetooth device from the list of Other Devices.
- After a few moments, your Bluetooth device will be connected to your iOS phone or tablet, and ready to use.
4 Setup Fitbit Account
- Open the Fitbit app on your device.
- Select Join Fitbit.
- The app will make sure your Fitbit is properly connected to your smartphone or computer, and walk you through creating an account with Fitbit.
Carefully follow the instructions on your screen to complete setting up the Fitbit app.
