Introduction
Before You Begin:
- Be near your computer, smartphone, tablet, or other device you want to setup Spotify on.
1 Install the Spotify App on Your Device
Spotify is available on a huge number of devices, including most smart TVs, media streaming devices, and many smart home stereos.
Expand the section below that is closest to the device you want to set up Spotify on.
PC and Mac
Windows
- Open your preferred browser, type https://www.spotify.com/download in the address bar, and press Enter.
- The Spotify website will automatically download the proper installer for you. Open the installer.
- Spotify will install automatically, simply wait will the install completes.
- Spotify will open automatically, and offer to help you create an account, or sign in with your existing Spotify account.
macOS
- Open your preferred browser, type in https://www.spotify.com/download, and press Return.
- Your download will start automatically. When complete, open the Spotify Installer.
- You'll be asked if you want to open the installer. Select Open.
- The installer will run automatically, simply wait while the install completes.
- Once complete, you can find Spotify in your Applications folder. Select Finder, then select Go > Applications.
- Open Spotify. The first time you open the program, you'll be asked to sign in or create a new account.
Mobile Devices
Android
- Open the Play Store, then select the Search Bar at the top.
- Type in Spotify, then select Spotify from the list.
- Select Install.
- Select Open to open the app.
- The first time you open the program, you'll be asked to sign in or create a new account.
iOS Device
- Open the App Store and select Search in the bottom right corner.
- Type in Spotify, and select Get for Spotify in the list.
- Select Get or Cloud Install for Spotify.
- Select Install.
- Select Open.
- The first time you open the program, you'll be asked to sign in or create a new account.
Television and Streaming Devices
Roku
- Press the Home button on your remote, then select Streaming Channels.
- Select Search, then type in Spotify, and select Spotify Music from the list on the right.
- Select Add channel.
- Once installed, a short message about how to move the channel will be shown. Select OK.
- Press the Home button on your remote, then select Spotify from your channel list.
- The first time you open the program, you'll be asked to sign in or create a new account.
Chromecast
To use Spotify on your Chromecast, you will need to have the Spotify app installed on your smartphone or tablet first.
- Open Spotify on your device, and start playing a song or playlist. Then, select the Cast icon at the bottom.
- Select your Chromecast from the list.
- Your Chromecast will start playing, and display the cover art.
- To play music on your Chromecast, select it from the bottom.
Amazon Fire
Amazon Alexa App
You will need to have the Amazon Alexa app setup on your Smartphone or Tablet to link your Spotify account to your Amazon account account.

- Open the Amazon Alexa app, and select the Menu.
- In the menu, select Skills & Games.
- At the top, select Search.
- Search for Spotify, and select Spotify from the list.
- Select Connect Control for Spotify from the list of available skills.
- Select Enable to Use.
- Information about how the Spotify connection works is shown. Carefully read this information, then scroll to the bottom and select Log in.
- Log in with your Spotify Username and Password, then select Log In.
- Spotify will ask to confirm this connection. Carefully read what Amazon will access. When you are ready to continue and agree to these terms, select Agree at the bottom.
- Your Spotify account is now connected to your Amazon account. Your Spotify music will be available on your Amazon Fire TV, as well as any Amazon speakers you may have.
Your Spotify account is now linked to your Amazon account; you can ask your Amazon speakers to play music, or listen on your Amazon Fire TV, and it will search for and play that music from Spotify.
You may need to wait up to 10 minutes for all features to become available to your Amazon devices.
Samsung Smart TV
Every Smart TV is slightly different, and you will most likely find Spotify in a slightly different menu or area.
- Press the Smart Hub button on your remote, and select the Apps panel at the top.
- Select Samsung Apps.
- Select the Search field on the left, and type in Spotify.
- Select Spotify from the list of apps.
- Select Download on the left.
- Once installed, select Run to open the Spotify app.The app will appear on your Apps list so it's easy to find in the future.
LG Smart TV
Every Smart TV is slightly different, and you will most likely find Spotify in a slightly different menu or area.
- Press the Home button on your remote, and select the LG Content Store.
- Select Apps & Games.
- Look through the list, and select Spotify.
- Select Install on the left.
Game Consoles
PlayStation 4
- Press the PS button on your controller, then select the PlayStation Store.
- Select Search.
- Enter Spotify, and select Spotify for PlayStation music on the right.
- Select Download on the left.
- Once installed, select Start to launch PS Music with Spotify integrated.
- You will then be able to log into your Spotify account or sign up for a new account if you do not have one.
Xbox One
- Press the Xbox Menu button on your controller, and select Store at the top.
- Select Search.
- Enter Spotify, and select Spotify Music - for Xbox One.
- Select Get.
- Once installed, select Launch.
- You will then be able to log into your Spotify account or sign up for a new account if you do not have one.
Speakers
Google Home
Setup Google Home App
You will need to have the Google Home app setup on your Smartphone or Tablet to link your Spotify account to your Google account.

- Open Google Home, and select Settings.
- Select Linked media accounts.
- In the list of available Music & Audio account types, select Spotify.
- You'll be asked to confirm you want to link your Spotify account. Select Yes, link account.
- Many people use their Gmail email address for their Spotify account. Google can automatically link everything this way for you. Select Share and check.
- If Spotify cannot locate your account, you'll be prompted to log in, instead. Fill in your Spotify Username and Password, then select Log In.
- Finally, you'll be asked to confirm you want to link your Spotify account. Carefully read the information provided. When you are ready to continue and agree, select Agree.
Your Spotify account is now linked to your Google account; you can ask your Google Home speakers to play music, and it will search for and play that music from Spotify.
You may need to wait up to 10 minutes for all features to become available to your Google Home devices.
Sonos
Setup Sonos App
You will need to have the Sonos app setup on your Smartphone or Tablet to link your Spotify account to your Sonos account.

- Open the Sonos app, and select More.
- Select Spotify from the list.
- A brief overview of Spotify is shown, select Add to Sonos.
- Sonos will ask to connect to the Spotify app you have setup on your phone, to get your account information automatically. Select Connect to Spotify.
- Your phone may ask permission to allow Sonos to open the Spotify app. If asked, select Open.
- A brief overview of what Spotify will share with Sonos is displayed. Once you have read through and are okay with this, select Okay.
- Sonos will ask you to name the Spotify service, just in case you add a second Spotify account in the future, so it's easier to tell them apart. Enter a friendly name to identify your Spotify account, and select Done.
Your Spotify account is now linked to your Sonos account. It will be available in the Sonos app.
You may need to wait up to 10 minutes for all features to become available to your Sonos devices.
Amazon Echo
