How to Play Music on a Marantz NR1608 AV Receiver

1. Introduction

This guide will walk you though the following:

  • How to connect, and stream audio over Bluetooth
  • Streaming audio with your Smart TV
  • Stream audio with HEOS or internet based radio
  • Play audio from connected USB media

2. Input and Navigation

All playback options involve setting the receiver to the correct input, navigating the TV screen if needed, and playing media appropriately for that medium.

To select the input source from the AV receiver itself

  1. Turn the dial Left and Right to select the input.

To select the input source on your Television

  • Depending on what device you are electing to use with your AV receiver and how your equipment is connected, you may also need to adjust your Television's input settings as well. To adjust your television's input:
  • Ensure the TV is powered on (1).
  • Depending on your TV remote's button layout, press the button labeled AV, Input, or Source (2) on the remote to display the input selection menu.

  • Use the Up and Down arrow buttons to highlight the desired input, then press the OK button to select said input.

  • This process can be repeated at any time to switch to a different video input on your television. For example, switching from watching Cable television to a DVD player and then back again.

The images above are only a general guide on changing your television's input settings. Your television remote's button layout will vary depending on the manufacturer and model television being used.

3. Play from External Device

An external device can be anything connected to this unit: TV, radio tuner, CD / DVD / Blu-ray Disc player, VCR, record player, video game console, etc.

  1. Turn on the external device connected to your AV receiver that you would like to use.
  2. Using the AV receiver's remote control, or the front panel controls indicated previously, set your AV receiver and Television to the correct input settings.
  3. You can then begin using your external device.

4. Listen to Radio

  1. Connect the supplied FM/AM antennas to the rear of the unit.

  1. Set your AV receiver to the Tuner input using the remote control or input selection buttons on the front of the receiver.

  3. Direct Tune
  4. Press the Option button while on the Tuner input.
  5. Use the â–²/â–¼ buttons to select Direct Tune and press Enter.
  6. Press the â–²/â–¼ buttons to select a number and then press the â–º button.
  7. Once all numbers are entered press the Enter button to tune to the station.
  8. RDS Search
  9. Press the Option button while on the Tuner input. Use the â–²/â–¼ buttons to select RDS Search and press Enter.
  10. Press Enter. The search for RDS Stations begins automatically.
    If you use â–º/â—„ buttons within 5 seconds after the broadcast station name is shown on the display, you can search for a different station
  11. PTY Tuning
  12. Press the Option button while on the Tuner input. Use the â–²/â–¼ buttons to select PTY Search and press Enter.
  13. Press the â–²/â–¼ buttons to select the desired program type and then press the Enter button. The PTY search begins automatically.

  14. TP Search
  15. Press the Option button while on the Tuner input. Use the â–²/â–¼ buttons to select TP Search and press Enter.
  16. Press Enter. The search for RDS Stations begins automatically.
    If you use â–º/â—„ buttons within 5 seconds after the broadcast station name is shown on the display, you can search for a different station
  17. Tuning Mode
  18. Press the Option button while on the Tuner input. Use the â–²/â–¼ buttons to select Tune Mode and press Enter.
  19. Use the â–º/â—„ buttons to choose between Auto and Manual tuning.

  21. Press the Option button while on the Tuner input. Use the â–²/â–¼ buttons to select Auto Preset Memory and press Enter.
  22. Press Enter. The unit starts to search for stations and presets them automatically.
    When presetting is completed, Completed is displayed for about 5 seconds and the option menu screen turns off.

  25. Press the Option button.
  26. Use the â–²/â–¼ buttons to select Preset Memory and press Enter.
  27. Use the â–²/â–¼ buttons to select the channel you want to preset and press Enter.

5. Listen to Internet Radio

  1. Press the HEOS button on your AV receiver's remote control until the input is set to Net Radio.

  1. Locate the USB port on the front of your AV receiver.

8. Play from Network Device

Your AV receiver can connect to a DLNA compatible network device, so long as both are connected to the same home network. This could be music shared from a computer or mobile device acting as a "media server." This guide does not cover configuration of media servers. Please consult your device's documentation for further instructions on how to set up a media server in your home.

To access an available media server from your AV receiver

  1. Press the HEOS button on your AV receiver's remote control.

9. Play over AirPlay

Your AV receiver can connect to an iOS or macOS device using Apple's AirPlay feature, so long as both are connected to the same home network.

  1. Launch iTunes on your macOS based computer or display the playback screen on your iOS device.

  1. If iTunes or the iOS device recognizes the receiver it will show the AirPlay symbol.

  1. Click or tap the AirPlay icon then select the name of the receiver as the output device.
  2. The receiver will automatically select HEOS Music as the input source once you start playback.

This unit can be used as a Bluetooth receiver.

  • When paired as a receiver, audio can be streamed to the unit from a transmitter.
