2. Input and Navigation
All playback options involve setting the receiver to the correct input, navigating the TV screen if needed, and playing media appropriately for that medium.
To select the input source from the AV receiver itself
Turn the dial Left and Right to select the input.
The Display will show the currently selected input.
To select the input source using the remote control
Press the Labeled buttons.
Common navigation controls for your AV receiver:
Info - Displays the status information on the TV screen
Option - Displays the option menu on the TV screen
Arrows â–²/â–¼/â–º/â—„ - Move the focus in the menu screen
Enter - Selects the focused menu / item
Back- Returns to the previous screen
Setup - Displays setup menu screen
To select the input source on your Television
Depending on what device you are electing to use with your AV receiver and how your equipment is connected, you may also need to adjust your Television's input settings as well. To adjust your television's input:
Ensure the TV is powered on (1).
Depending on your TV remote's button layout, press the button labeled AV, Input, or Source (2) on the remote to display the input selection menu.
Use the Up and Down arrow buttons to highlight the desired input, then press the OK button to select said input.
This process can be repeated at any time to switch to a different video input on your television. For example, switching from watching Cable television to a DVD player and then back again.
The images above are only a general guide on changing your television's input settings. Your television remote's button layout will vary depending on the manufacturer and model television being used.
3. Play from External Device
An external device can be anything connected to this unit: TV, radio tuner, CD / DVD / Blu-ray Disc player, VCR, record player, video game console, etc.
Turn on the external device connected to your AV receiver that you would like to use.
Using the AV receiver's remote control, or the front panel controls indicated previously, set your AV receiver and Television to the correct input settings.
You can then begin using your external device.
4. Listen to Radio
Connect the supplied FM/AM antennas to the rear of the unit.
Set your AV receiver to the Tuner input using the remote control or input selection buttons on the front of the receiver.
Use the radio controls to tune to the desired station:
Manual Tune
Press the Tune+ or Tune- to select the station you want to listen to.
Direct Tune
Press the Option button while on the Tuner input.
Use the â–²/â–¼ buttons to select Direct Tune and press Enter.
Press the â–²/â–¼ buttons to select a number and then press the â–º button.
Once all numbers are entered press the Enter button to tune to the station.
RDS Search
Press the Option button while on the Tuner input. Use the â–²/â–¼ buttons to select RDS Search and press Enter.
Press Enter. The search for RDS Stations begins automatically. If you use â–º/â—„ buttons within 5 seconds after the broadcast station name is shown on the display, you can search for a different station
PTY Tuning
Press the Option button while on the Tuner input. Use the â–²/â–¼ buttons to select PTY Search and press Enter.
Press the â–²/â–¼ buttons to select the desired program type and then press the Enter button. The PTY search begins automatically. If you use â–º/â—„ buttons within 5 seconds after the broadcast station name is shown on the display, you can search for a different station
TP Search
Press the Option button while on the Tuner input. Use the â–²/â–¼ buttons to select TP Search and press Enter.
Press Enter. The search for RDS Stations begins automatically. If you use â–º/â—„ buttons within 5 seconds after the broadcast station name is shown on the display, you can search for a different station
Tuning Mode
Press the Option button while on the Tuner input. Use the â–²/â–¼ buttons to select Tune Mode and press Enter.
Use the â–º/â—„ buttons to choose between Auto and Manual tuning.
Auto Preset Memory
Press the Option button while on the Tuner input. Use the â–²/â–¼ buttons to select Auto Preset Memory and press Enter.
Press Enter. The unit starts to search for stations and presets them automatically. When presetting is completed, Completed is displayed for about 5 seconds and the option menu screen turns off.
Manual Preset
Tune into the station you want to preset.
Press the Option button.
Use the â–²/â–¼ buttons to select Preset Memory and press Enter.
Use the â–²/â–¼ buttons to select the channel you want to preset and press Enter.
Tuning to a preset station
Use the CH/PAGE â–²/â–¼ buttons to select desired preset channel.
5. Listen to Internet Radio
Press the HEOS button on your AV receiver's remote control until the input is set to Net Radio.
Use the â–²/â–¼ buttons to select TuneIn Internet Radio and press Enter
Select the station you want to play.
â–º / II - Playback and Pause
|◄◄ / ►►| - Skip to previous or next track
CHPAGE â–²/â–¼ - Switch to previous or next page
6. Play from USB Device
Locate the USB port on the front of your AV receiver.
Connect your FAT32 formatted USB storage device to the unit.
Press the USB button on the remote control to select it as input source.
Select the name of the USB device.
Browse the music on your USB device and select something to play.
When you select something to play, you will be asked how to queue up your music.Play NowInserts the item into the queue after the currently playing track and plays the selected item immediatelyPlay Now & Replace QueueClears the queue and plays the selected item immediatelyPlay NextInserts the item into the queue after the current song and plays it when the current song endsAdd to End of QueueAdds the item to the end of the queue

Your AV receiver can connect to a DLNA compatible network device, so long as both are connected to the same home network. This could be music shared from a computer or mobile device acting as a "media server." This guide does not cover configuration of media servers. Please consult your device's documentation for further instructions on how to set up a media server in your home.
To access an available media server from your AV receiver
Press the HEOS button on your AV receiver's remote control.
Use the â–²/â–¼ buttons to select Music Servers and press Enter.
Select the name of your networked PC/NAS server.
Browse the music on your PC/NAS and select something to play.
When you select something to play, you will be asked how to queue up your music.Play NowInserts the item into the queue after the currently playing track and plays the selected item immediatelyPlay Now & Replace QueueClears the queue and plays the selected item immediatelyPlay NextInserts the item into the queue after the current song and plays it when the current song endsAdd to End of QueueAdds the item to the end of the queue
9. Play over AirPlay
Your AV receiver can connect to an iOS or macOS device using Apple's AirPlay feature, so long as both are connected to the same home network.
Launch iTunes on your macOS based computer or display the playback screen on your iOS device.
If iTunes or the iOS device recognizes the receiver it will show the AirPlay symbol.
Click or tap the AirPlay icon then select the name of the receiver as the output device.
The receiver will automatically select HEOS Music as the input source once you start playback.
10. Play from Bluetooth Device
This unit can be used as a Bluetooth receiver.
When paired as a receiver, audio can be streamed to the unit from a transmitter.
11. Play from Bluetooth Device
Bluetooth technology allows you to stream content wirelessly between devices without having to connect a single cable. With your device connected to your Yamaha receiver via Bluetooth, your home theater system is where your device will output sound rather than its built-in speakers. Playback can take place normally. The following steps are examples of playback options for your devices.

Open the Google Play Store.
Within the Google Play Store, tap Categories then Music & Audio.
Browse through the listed music apps and select the one you prefer. You can even check the most popular ones by tapping Top Charts.
