How to Screen Mirror from a Mac to an Apple TV

1. Introduction

You can now mirror your desktop or laptop screen from your Mac system to an Apple TV using Airplay. This allows you to watch anything on your Apple TV that you could watch on your Mac.

Tools You'll Need:

  • A Mac and Apple TV connected to the same network

Supplies You'll Need:

  • Zip ties
  • Any other consumable supplies
  • Comment out supplies section if no supplies are necessary

  • You must have access to a computer with iTunes installed.
  • You must have that thing for the other thing so you can do the thing.

2. Mirror Your Screen Using AirPlay

The following steps will require that you move between your Apple TV and your Mac to establish screen mirroring.

To Establish Screen Mirroring

On Your Apple TV

  1. Ensure your Apple TV is powered on and your television is set to the correct input.
  2. Your Apple TV should be at its home screen.

On your Mac Computer

  1. Click the AirPlay icon in the menu bar.

  1. Beneath 'AirPlay To' select your Apple TV (this one is named Living Room).
  2. Beneath 'Airplay: Location' ensure that Mirror Built-in Retina Display is selected.
  3. Check marks will appear beside each item after they have been successfully selected.

On Your Apple TV

  • Your computer's display will now be mirrored onto the television your Apple TV is connected to.

To Stop Screen Mirroring

On your Mac Computer

  1. Click the AirPlay icon in the menu bar.
