How to Set Up a Linksys RE6350 AC1200 WiFi Repeater

1. Introduction

In This Guide

You'll Learn How To:

  • Set up your Linksys RE6350 Wi-Fi Range Extender.

Before We Begin:

  • Have your home Wi-Fi network name and password.
  • Be at your computer, laptop, tablet, or smartphone.

2. Connect

  1. Place your Range Extender about half-way between your Router, and the Wi-Fi devices you're having trouble with.
  2. Plug in your Range Extender.

  1. Wait till the indicator light on the top front of the unit to turn orange, indicating it's ready to setup.

3. OS Choice

To continue, we need to know what Operating System your computer is using.

There are 2 main Operating Systems for personal computers currently available, Microsoft Windows and Apple macOS.

4. Connect to Setup Network (Windows 10)

Windows 10 may show slightly different options, but the steps should be similar across all versions of Windows 10.

  1. Select the Network icon in the bottom right.

  1. Select the Linksys Extender Setup from the list.

  1. Select Connect.

The network is unsecured; this is normal. You will be using it to set up the device only. After, you will be using the device over a secured wireless connection.

5. Initial Setup

  1. Open your prefered browser.

  1. In the Address bar, type in extender.linksys.com and press Enter or Return.

  1. Read the End User License Agreement carefully, then place a checkmark next to it to indicate you accept it. Place a check next to Automatic Software Updates so you don't have to worry about updating the device in the future. Then, select Start Setup.

  1. Select your home Wi-Fi connection from the list.

  1. Enter your Wi-Fi password for your home Wi-Fi connection, then select Next.

  1. You'll be asked to select a name for your extended network for both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks. Normally it will use your home network's name, with "_2GHzExt" or "_5GHzExt" at the end. Enter a password for the Wi-Fi networks coming from your range extender, then select Next.

  1. You can set the password on your extended networks to be the same as your main Wi-Fi Network, so you don't have to remember extra passwords. 
  2. You may be shown a screen letting you know if your Range Extender is too far or too close. We will take care of moving the extender after we're done setting it up. Select Connect anyway or Next.

  1. You'll be asked for an admin password. This password is used to make changes to the setup of your Range Extender in the future. Create a password, enter it twice, then select Save.

  1. This password won't be used for connecting to your device, only for setting up the Range Extender itself. Make this password something you will remember, but is hard for others to guess.
  2. You'll be asked to register your new Range Extender. Enter your Email address, then select Next.

  1. Your range extender will restart with the information and settings you've given it. Then, you'll be asked to connect to your range extender to continue.

6. Connect to Network (Windows 10)

Windows 10 may show slightly different options, but the steps should be similar across all versions of Windows 10.

  1. Select the Network icon in the bottom right.

  1. Select the the network name you setup during the extender setup.

If you're asked for a password, it's the one you just setup on your range extender.

7. Complete Setup

  1. Return to your browser.

  1. After a few moments, the Next button will turn blue. Select Next.

  1. Your Range Extender is fully setup! A final screen will display with all the settings and information about your range extender.

  1. It is highly recommended to write down or print out this information, so you have it when you need to connect your other Wi-Fi devices to the network!

8. Location

Once fully setup, you can relocate your Range Extender to an ideal location in your home. Simply plug it in in the new location; it will save all the settings you entered and be operational a few minutes after you plug it in.

When placing your range extender, there's a couple things to consider:

  • At least six feet from your router.
  • About half way between your router, and the devices having problems with their Wi-Fi connection.

9. Connect to Setup Network (macOS)

macOS may show slightly different options, but the steps should be similar across all versions and themes on macOS.

  1. Select Wi-Fi from the menu bar, then select Linksys Extender Setup.

11. Connect to Network (macOS)

  1. Select Wi-Fi from the menu bar, then select the extended network you just setup.

If you're asked for a password, it's the one you just setup on your range extender.

12. OS Choice

To continue, we need to know what Operating System your smartphone or tablet has.

There are 2 main Operating Systems for smartphones currently available, Android and iOS.

13. Connect to Setup Network (Android)

Depending on your exact device (Smartphone or Tablet), and which generation you have, the menu theme and options might look slightly different on your screen. However, the steps should be similar across all Android devices and generations.

  1. Open Settings.

15. Connect to Network (Android)
