How to Set Up a Samsung Smart TV

1. Introduction

What's in the box?

Samsung televisions normally come with just the television and a remote.

Things you need before you start:

A Samsung television.

Applicable cables (HDMI, coax, ethernet)

An internet connection -You need to connect your device to a Wi-Fi or wired (Ethernet) network to complete setup and access all of the content available on Samsung TV

2. Plugging in Cables

  1. Plug your HDMI cable into your cable box if you have one.
  2. Plug your power cable into the television and the other end into an outlet.

  1. Acquire an Ethernet cable if you want a wired connection.
  2. Take one end of the cable and plug it into your router/modem's Ethernet port.
  3. Plug the other end of the cable into your device's Ethernet port.

3. Power On

After you have plugged in your cables, press the power button on your Smart TV.

4. Select Language

  1. Turning on the Smart TV for the first time will prompt you to enter setup.
  2. The first step of setup will ask you for your desired language.
  3. Select either English or Welcome.

5. Internet Connection

The following steps will help you connect your Samsung Smart TV to the Internet.

6. Network Credentials

In order to connect to a wireless network, you must have the required credentials. These are:

  • Wireless Network Name (SSID)
  • Wireless Network Key (Password)

Finding Network Credentials

Most wireless routers/gateways have a label with the default credentials. If the credentials aren't there, look in the devices documentation.

If your Internet Service Provider (ISP) installed the wireless router or gateway, they might have left you a setup sheet which may have the credentials.

7. Wireless Connection

Before you start, you should know your Wireless Network Name (SSID) and Password.

Follow the on-screen instructions to connect your Samsung Smart TV to the Internet, via a Wi-Fi or wired (Ethernet) connection.

Your Samsung Smart TV will ask you to select your Wi-Fi network.

Once your network is selected you will need to insert your password.

After a brief moment you will be connected to the internet.

8. Cable Provider

  1. As part of your initial setup, you will need to tell your Smart TV where to receive its television source.

  1. Select your TV source. It may be a Cable or Satellite Box, or an Antenna.

  1. Select your input source. This is the connection between your cable box or satellite and your television.

  1. Select your cable provider from the on screen list.

10. Wired Connection

  1. Acquire an Ethernet cable.
  2. Take one end of the cable and plug it into your router/modem's Ethernet port.
  3. Plug the other end of the cable into your device's Ethernet port.
  4. Usually this is all that is needed to connect your device to a wired connection.
