How to Set Up a Sonos CONNECT

1. Introduction

You may be surprised at how simple it is to turn your stereo into an amazing streaming music player.

Sonos has a CONNECT for that.

You can link a Sonos CONNECT to your stereo, home theater, or powered speakers to stream music to them using the Sonos Controller App. This treats your existing sound equipment to a Sonos upgrade, without having to replace everything.

This guide will cover how to hook your home theater or turntable up to your Connect. It will show how to get it powered up and finally, synced to the Sonos app.

Tools You'll Need:

• Correct cabling to connect your devices to the CONNECT

Supplies You'll Need:

• Zip ties
• Any other consumable supplies
• Comment out supplies section if no supplies are necessary

• Have the speakers and any external audio device you wish to connect to your amp handy.

2. Hook Up Cables and Devices to the Connect

Connecting audio inputs

Connecting an input such as a CD player or turn table will make it available to all of your speakers connected to the sound system. This way you can use the Sonos app to control those devices.

Connecting audio outputs

1. If you have digital inputs on your AVR or amplifier, you can insert a digital coaxial cable to the Connect's digital output to the digital input on the receiver. The port on the Connect is orange and labeled coax.

2. You can use a TOSLINK optical audio cable to hook up the Sonos Connect’s TOSLINK digital audio output to the audio inputs on a separate audio component, such as an amplifier or your home theater receiver.
   

1. If you have analog inputs on your AVR or amplifier, use a standard RCA audio cable for the Connect's analog audio output.

2. If connecting to a computer you’ll need a stereo mini to RCA Y-adapter audio cable (one 1/8" stereo miniplug to dual RCA male connectors).
   

1. Connect the output ports to your device's input ports using the cabling needed.

Power on the Connect

Attach the power cord and plug in your Connect.

3. Sync the Connect to the Sonos App

Install the Sonos Controller AppBefore connecting your Sonos devices to the app, you need to, well, download the app!

1. Open the App Store.
   

1. Type in "Sonos Controller" in the search bar.
2. Find Sonos Controller in the search results and tap on GET.

• Sonos Controller App

1. Open Play Store.
   

1. Search for "Sonos Controller for Android" and tap on the app.
   

1. Tap Install to start downloading the app.
   

1. Once installed, tap Open.
   

Connect to the Sonos App

1. Open the Sonos app.
   

1. Select Set up a new Sonos system.
   

1. Sign into your existing Sonos account, or select Create account to create a new one.
   

1. Select Continue to proceed with the setup process.
   

1. Select Standard setup for your Sonos Connect to continue.
   

1. Select Next to proceed with Standard setup.
   

1. Your Sonos Connect should already be powered on. Ensure that it is, and select Next to proceed.
   

1. You should eventually see a green flashing light on your Connect. Once you do, select Continue to proceed.
   

1. The Sonos Controller app will begin searching for your Connect.
2. The Sonos Controller app should have determined you are attempting to setup a Sonos Connect.
3. The Sonos Controller app will then begin configuring your Connect.
   

1. The Sonos Connect is now ready to begin its network setup process. Select Next for instructions on how to proceed.
   

1. You will be asked to connect your mobile device to a temporary network called SONOS in order to proceed with the setup process.
   

1. Open your Wi-Fi settings, and select the Sonos network.
   
2. Select Settings.

1. Select Sonos from the list.
   

1. Return to the Sonos app.
   

1. The Sonos Connect is now connected to your home network.
