How to Set Up a Sonos One Wireless Speaker

1. Introduction

The Sonos One speaker is specially made to fit in small areas like desks, counters, and even bathrooms due to its humidity resistance. The Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa are built right in so you can play music, check news, set alarms, get your questions answered, and more, with just your voice.

With the Sonos One you can easily go from box to listening in no time. This guide will take you through setting up the speaker, plugging it in, getting the Sonos Controller App, and connecting the app and speaker together. 

Tools You'll Need:

  • A paperclip
  • iPhone charging cable
  • Access to a computer with iTunes installed
  • Any other non-consumable tools needed

2. Set Up Sonos One Wireless Speaker

  1. Place the speaker within a good range of the Wi-Fi router. You can check the Wi-Fi signal strength on other Wi-Fi connected devices that have a display by bringing them temporarily next to the Sonos speaker.
  2. Plug one end of the provided power cable into the speaker. Plug the other end into an outlet.

  1. Your Sonos One has a single LED on the top and it will flash green when it is ready to be set up.

  1. Your Sonos One is powered up and is ready to be set up, or added to an existing Sonos system.

3. Connect to the Sonos App

iOS Devices

  1. Open the App Store.

  2. Find Sonos Controller in the search results and tap on GET.

  1. Open Play Store.

Connect to the Sonos App

  1. Open the Sonos app.

  1. Select Set up a new Sonos system.

  1. Sign into your existing Sonos account, or select Create account to create a new one.

  1. Select Continue to proceed with the setup process.

  1. Select Standard setup for your Sonos One to continue.

  1. Your Sonos One should already be powered on. Ensure that it is, and select Next to proceed.

  1. You should eventually see a green flashing light on your One. Once you do, select Continue to proceed.

  1. The Sonos Controller app will begin searching for your One.
  2. The Sonos Controller app should have determined you are attempting to setup a Sonos One.
  3. The Sonos Controller app will then begin configuring your One.

  1. The One is now ready to begin its network setup process. Select Next for instructions on how to proceed.

  1. You will be asked to connect your mobile device to a temporary network called SONOS in order to proceed with the setup process.

  2. Select Settings.
