No filtering technology is 100% perfect. The best solution is active, engaged parenting; working with your child to ensure they develop good habits through your instruction and guidance.There are two ways to restrict your Amazon Fire Tablet:

Whole Tablet Parental Controls

Accessed via tablet settings, these controls place restrictions on the entire tablet and can block:

• Web browsing
• The Email, Contacts, and Calendars apps
• The ability to purchase from the content stores on your device.
• The ability to play Amazon Video and Prime Video.
• Specific content types (for example, Books or Apps)
• Wireless connectivity.
• Location based Services.

They also password protect one or more of the following:

• Purchases from the Amazon stores on your device (for example, the Amazon App store)
• Playing movies and TV shows from Prime Video
• Connecting to Wi-Fi
• Enabling location services

Parental Controls for Child Profiles

Child Profiles are essential for keeping kids away from your media, apps, and settings. They are great for sharing select media with a child, or sharing one Kindle Fire with multiple children of different ages. Creating a Child Profile is easy and can be done in just a minute or two. Once the profile is set up, if you want to, you can go deeper into the settings and get very specific with restrictive settings.

3. First Time Set Up of Parental Controls

1. Swipe down from the top of the screen to reveal the notification bar, then tap Settings.

2. Create your new Parental Controls Password, then tap Finish.
   
3. Your Parental Controls password is different from your lock screen password.

4. Create a Child Profile

To Create a Child Profile

1. Swipe down from the top of the screen to reveal the notification bar, then tap Settings.
   

1. Tap Profiles & Family Library.
   

1. Tap Add a Child Profile.
   

1. If your tablet does not have a lock screen password, you will be prompted to set one up. This is to keep your child from accessing your account to bypass parental controls. Tap Set Password.
   

1. Select whether you would like to use a PIN or a Password, then type in your desired choice.
   

1. Confirm your PIN or password by typing it in again, then tap Finish.
   

1. Once your password has been selected, you'll be asked to name your child profile.
   

1. Select the child's gender and fill in their birthdate.
   

1. You can choose to use either FreeTime or Teen Profiles for your new child profile. One of the two will be pre-selected based on your child's date of birth. Each one has a different set of default restrictions in place. Tap Add Profile once you've made your selection.
   

1. On the following screen, you can choose to share content from your own collection to the new child profile. There are several tabs where available content can be viewed from. The first tab is labeled Kid Friendly. This is the Amazon content you already own that is designated as being appropriate for children. You can tap Add All Kids' Titles or select individual titles. You can browse other tabs (Books, Videos, and Games & Apps) to additional content. Tap Done when you're finished.
   

1. Amazon FreeTime Unlimited is an optional paid monthly subscription service for Amazon FreeTime that offers thousands of content titles for children ages three to twelve years old. You will be prompted to begin a free trial. Select Start Free Trial or No Thanks to proceed.
   
2. If you've purchased a Fire HD Kids Edition Tablet (4th Generation) at retail, you'll automatically receive one year of Amazon FreeTime Unlimited.

1. To enable the Web Browser for your child, tap Enable Browser. With parental controls on, the web browser offers hand curated and age appropriate content that Amazon believes to be safe for children.
   

1. If you've chosen to enable the web browser, tap the box to place a check mark in it, then tap Done.
   

1. Confirm the Smart Filter by tapping OK to finish setup.
   

5. Adjust Child Profile Settings

Daily Goals can be set for your child to meet each day. If you check the Learn First box, your child will not be able to access entertainment content on the Fire until their educational goals are met. For this purpose, Amazon labels individual videos, apps, and games as either educational or entertainment. For example, all books are labeled as educational, and all web browsing is labeled as entertainment.
   

1. Using Bedtime you can select when to turn the tablet off and when to turn it on according to your child's bedtime or curfew.
