How to Set Up Parental Controls on a Comcast Gateway

1. Introduction

Set up Parental Controls on your Comcast Xfinity Gateway.
Before We Begin:
Be at your computer.
Have your Gateway username and password.
Have your Comcast username and password.
2. Parental Control Method
The Xfinity Wireless Gateway offers two ways to access the parental control options. While both accomplish much the same thing, one may look more friendly, or be more convenient to you.
Using the Router's Interface
You'll be able to access all the different settings for parental controls, but isn't as pretty to look at.
Using Xfinity xFi Interface
You'll be able to access all the different settings, but you may find the options more friendly to work with. However, there's extra steps you must take to fill-in the information to make those settings settings more friendly in the first place.
All the parental controls are available in either method you choose, it's only personal taste how you want to look at them.
3. Log In
Open your browser, type 10.0.0.1 into the address bar at the top, then push Enter or Return.
Enter your Username and Password, then select Login.
The default Username is "admin". The default Password is "password".
4. Parental Controls
Enable Parental Controls
Select Parental Control on the left, it will expand to show different sections you can select.
There are three sections shown here, Managed Sites, Managed Services, and Managed Devices, to help you manage your child's Internet access.
Managed Sites
Here, you can add websites, either using a keyword or an address, that your child will not be able to visit.
Managed Services
You can restrict access to services, based on the port they communicate with.
Unless you know, specifically, the exact ports a service uses (such as a game, or a particular task such as FTP, this section may not provide much utility to modern Internet activity.
Managed Devices
Here you can select a device to block based on time, creating a time limit for when your children can go online.
Computers added to the "Trusted Computers" section at the bottom will always be able to browse these sites without restriction.
5. Overview
There are four parts to setup to use Parental Controls with xFi on your Wireless Gateway.

Assign Each Device to a Profile
Setup Parental Control Schedules on a Profile
6. xFi Log In
Open your browser, type xfinity.com/myxFi into the address bar at the top, then push Enter or Return.
Enter your Comcast Username and Password, then select Sign In.
7. Identify Devices
Select Devices at the top.
Select Personalize at the top right.
Select the device you'd like to name.
Enter a name for your device, select a category for the device, then select Continue.
Once personalized, select Close.
8. Create Profile
Select People at the top.
Select Create Profile on the far right.
Enter a Name for the profile, select an Icon to identify it easily, then select Create.
9. Assign Device to Profile
Select People at the top.
Scroll down to find the profile you want, and select Add Device.
Select the devices you want to assign, then select Assign.
10. Setup Profile Schedule
Select People at the top.
Scroll down to the Profile for the child you want to setup Parental Controls for, and select More.
There are two ways xFi offers to help with Parental Controls.
Bed Time
Set times when your child's devices won't be able to go online.
Parental Control
Enable basic blocks for adult-oriented content.
Bed Time
Scroll down. Under Access rules, select Edit for Bedtime Mode.
Place checkmarks next to the schedules you'd like to set.
Using the sliders, adjust when bedtime starts and ends for each range of days, then select Apply Changes.
Parental Control
Scroll down. Under Access rules, select Edit for Parental Control.
Select the button next to On, then select Apply Changes.
11. More Information
You may always visit xfinity.com/myxFi with your browser whenever you want to make changes to the devices, profiles, or other settings on your Comcast account.
12. xFi Log In
Open your browser, type xfinity.com/myxFi into the address bar at the top, then push Enter or Return.
Enter your Comcast Username and Password, then select Sign In.
13. Create Profile
Select People at the top.
Select Create Profile on the far right.
Enter a Name for the profile, select an Icon to identify it easily, then select Create.
14. xFi Log In
Open your browser, type xfinity.com/myxFi into the address bar at the top, then push Enter or Return.
Enter your Comcast Username and Password, then select Sign In.
15. Identify Devices
Select Devices at the top.
