2. Parental Control Method

The Xfinity Wireless Gateway offers two ways to access the parental control options. While both accomplish much the same thing, one may look more friendly, or be more convenient to you.

Using the Router's Interface

You'll be able to access all the different settings for parental controls, but isn't as pretty to look at.

Using Xfinity xFi Interface

You'll be able to access all the different settings, but you may find the options more friendly to work with. However, there's extra steps you must take to fill-in the information to make those settings settings more friendly in the first place.

All the parental controls are available in either method you choose, it's only personal taste how you want to look at them.

There are three sections shown here, Managed Sites, Managed Services, and Managed Devices, to help you manage your child's Internet access.

Managed Sites

Here, you can add websites, either using a keyword or an address, that your child will not be able to visit.

Managed Services

You can restrict access to services, based on the port they communicate with.

Unless you know, specifically, the exact ports a service uses (such as a game, or a particular task such as FTP, this section may not provide much utility to modern Internet activity.

Managed Devices

Here you can select a device to block based on time, creating a time limit for when your children can go online.

Computers added to the "Trusted Computers" section at the bottom will always be able to browse these sites without restriction.
