How to Set Up Peripherals for DJI Mavic Air Drone

1. Introduction

You'll Learn:

  • How to set up peripherals for you DJI Drone.

2. Turn On RC & Drone

To complete the following steps, you will need both your remote control and drone handy.

On the Remote Control

  1. Press and release the power button, then press it again quickly and hold it until you hear it make the initialization sound.

  1. Make sure the drone is unfolded and gimbal cover is removed so the propellers and gimbal can move freely during the warm-up process.

3. Link RC

The remote control is linked with the drone out of the box. They only need to be linked if you can no longer pilot the drone with the remote control.

To complete the following steps, you will need both your drone and remote control handy.

Ensure the drone and remote control are within 20 inches of each other.

On the Drone

  1. Press and hold the function button on the rear end of the drone for about two seconds and release it when you hear a single beep.

On the Remote Control

  1. Press and hold the Flight Pause button, Function button and Customizable button simultaneously until the remote control starts beeping.

  1. The drone and remote control will be linked when the status indicator light turns solid green.

4. Connect Mobile Device to RC

Depending on the size of your mobile device and where the connection port is located on it, there are two ways to connect it to the remote control:

Using the Clamp Connector

  1. Unfold the mobile device clamps.

  1. Align the side connector on the left clamp with the port on the mobile device.

  1. If your mobile device has a home button in the middle, make sure it's positioned between the bigger teeth of the clamp.

  1. Insert the mobile device into the left clamp first, then into the right clamp to secure it.

Using the Extension Cable

  1. Unfold the mobile device clamps.

  1. Push the side connector into the outward position on the left clamp.

  1. Disconnect side cable from the remote controller.

  1. Connect the provided USB cable into the bottom port of the remote controller.

  1. Insert the mobile device into one of the clamps first, then into the other one to secure it.

  1. Connect the Micro USB end of the cable into the side port of the mobile device.

5. Turn On RC & Drone

7. Extra Batteries

To set up extra batteries for a DJI drone, they have to be fully charged and updated to be compatible with the drone.

9. Charge Battery

  1. Make sure the headband is firmly connected to the goggles body.

  1. Plug the smaller end of the provided USB cable into the headband.

  1. Plug the other end of the same cable into the charger then plug the charger into a power outlet.

  1. The battery indicator lights will start scrolling until they turn off meaning the goggles are charged.

10. Launch App

  1. Launch the DJI Assistant 2 app.

  1. If you don't see your email address in the top right corner, click Login.

  1. Fill in your DJI account information then click Sign In.

11. Prep for Activation with Computer

  1. Press and release the power button, then press it again quickly and hold it for about two seconds to turn on the goggles.

  1. Put on the goggles.

  1. Navigate the goggles interface using the touch panel on the right side. Swipe with one finger up, down, front (for right) and back (for left) to move the selection and tap to choose the selected option.

  1. Choose your preferred Language.

  1. Select Next on the Welcome screen.

  1. Read the Terms of Use, check the box to accept them and select Next.

  1. For the activation type, choose With DJI Assistant 2 then select Next.

  1. Take off the goggles.

  1. Plug the smaller end of the provided USB cable into the headband.

12. Activate Goggles

  1. In the DJI Assistant 2 app, select your goggles under Connected Devices.

  1. You will be prompted to activate the goggles. Click Start Activation.

  1. Make sure your DJI account information is correct and click Confirm Your Account.

  1. Once the goggles are activated, click Complete to finish.

13. Update Goggles

  1. In the DJI Assistant 2 app, select your goggles under Connected Devices.

  1. Look for the Latest Version available in the Firmware List and click Upgrade.

  1. Click Start Update.

  1. Wait for the update to complete. The process may take several minutes to finish.Do not turn off or disconnect the goggles or exit the app during the update.

  1. Once the update is completed, click Back to finish.

14. Connect Goggles

  1. Plug the smaller end of the provided USB cable into the headband.

  1. Plug the other end of the same cable into the USB port on the bottom side of the remote control.

  1. Once the devices are powered on, you should see the live view of the drone camera in the goggles.
