How to Setup Chromecast on Windows 11

2. Chromecast (1st Gen.): Plug in

Connect your Chromecast (1st Generation) to your TV. Here's how,

  1. Plug one end of the USB cable into your Chromecast and the other end of the cable into the power supply and then into a power outlet. A USB power cable and power adapter is included in the box and is ready to use.
  2. Plug Chromecast into any available HDMI input on the TV.
  3. If there is no available open outlet, you can connect your Chromecast to the USB port on your TV.

Make sure to plug in the USB cable to the port labeled 'USB' or with the USB symbol and not the port labeled 'Service'.

3. Introduction

This is a step-by-step instruction on how to set up your Chromecast Device on Windows 11.

4. TV Settings

Follow the below instructions to attach Chromecast Device to TV:

  • Previously, it was possible to Setup Chromecast by downloading the Chromecast App to computer and completing the entire setup process directly on a Computer
  • With this understanding let us go ahead and take a look at the steps to use Chromecast on Computer

1. Next, use the Remote Control of your Home Television to change the Source Input of your TV to match the HDMI Port (HDMI 1, HDMI2….) into which the Chromecast device is plugged-in.

On most Remote Controls you can change the Input Source by pressing Input or Source button.  

2. Press the designated button on the Remote Control and make sure the Television display changes to the selected HDMI Port. 

5. Setup Chromecast Using Google Home App

Follow the below instructions to Setup Chromecast Using Google Home App:

  • The next step is to setup the Chromecast Device by using Google Home App on your Computer

1. On the Chrome Setup screen, click on Set Up Your Chromecast using this Computer link (See image below).

2. On the next screen, you will be asked to Agree to Chromecast Privacy Terms by clicking on the Accept button.

3. Once you accept the terms, the webpage will start searching for available Chromecast devices connected to your WiFi Network (See image below).

If your Computer cannot Find the Chromecast device, try switching the WiFi Network on your Computer from 2.4 to 5 GHz or vice versa. 

4. On the next screen, click on Set Me Up button.

5. Next, click on the WiFi icon located to at the right corner of the taskbar on your Computer and then click on Chromecast’s open WiFi Network (See image below).

6. After connecting to Chromecast’s open WiFi Network, click on the Next button (See image below)

7. On the next screen, click on the Yes Arrow, if the Code appearing on the screen of your Windows computer is matching with the Code appearing on the bottom right corner of your TV (See image below).

8. On the next screen you will be asked to provide a Name for your Chromecast. Type any Name that you would like to use and click on Looks good (See image below)

9. Next, you will be asked to confirm your WiFi Settings. Select your WiFi Network, Enter the Password for your WiFi network and click on Connect.

10. Chromecast will display, Ready to Cast! screen.

11. Once you see the Ready to Cast screen, you are all setup and ready to Cast anything playing on the screen of your Windows 11 Computer onto the big screen of your Home Television.

6. Use Chromecast on Windows 11

Follow the below instructions to use Chomecast on Windows 11: 

  • In the Chrome/Chromium browser you might be required to download an extention to Cast video from any website on your Chromecast
  • To do that go to any video playing website
  • Just for the purpose for a example, we selected a random Vimeo Video
  • Once the page is loaded, right click on the video and select Cast media to device
  • Once you do that, you might see a pop up like below, just click on Restart
  • Once the browser restarts, again go to the video and right-click on it and again select Cast media to device
  • Now, simply select your Chromecast as Source and cast the video to your Chromecaset
  • So, this is how you can cast anything from your Windows 11 PC to Chromecast on your TV
  • Examine your selection to ensure that you have selected the correct choice for Cast Desktop rather than Cast Tab
  • In the event, if it doesn’t work, click on the three dots in the upper right-hand corner and make sure the Zoom size is set to 100 percent, in case if it is already 100 percent drop it down a notch untill you are able to see the complete screen

 

7. Download and Install Google Chrome

8. Chromecast (2nd Gen.): Plug in

Connect your Chromecast (2nd Generation) to your TV. Here's how,

  1. Plug one end of the USB cable into your Chromecast and the other end of the cable into the power supply and then into a power outlet.
    A USB power cable and power adapter is included in the box and is ready to use.
  2. Plug Chromecast into any available HDMI input on the TV.
  3. If there is no available power outlet, you can connect your Chromecast to the USB port on your TV instead.

9. Chromecast Ultra: Plug in

Connect your Chromecast Ultra to your TV. Here's how,

  1. Plug one end of the power supply into your Chromecast Ultra and the other end of the cable into an open outlet. You can also connect your Chromecast Ultra to an Ethernet network through the port on the power supply.
  2. Plug your Chromecast Ultra into any open HDMI input on your TV.

Chromecast Ultra won't work with any other USB cable, or any USB cable plugged into a TV. You must use the power supply included in the Chromecast Ultra box.
