How to Sync Fitbit Data to a Phone or Computer

1. Introduction

Your Fitbit tracker captures and records activity throughout the course of the day. In order to see the data your tracker has captured, your device needs to be able to synchronize its information with the app on your smartphone, tablet, or computer.

Tools You'll Need:

  • If you wish to sync your Fitbit to a computer, you will need the USB Fitbit dongle.

Before You Begin:

The tracker must be set up.

2. Choose Your Platform

Before we proceed, what kind of device will you be synchronizing your Fitbit device with?

3. Syncing Using Mobile App

  1. Open your Fitbit App.

  1. On the bottom of the screen, tap Account.

  1. Make sure All Day Sync is on. You can tap Sync Now to sync immediately.

4. Accessing Mobile App Data

  1. To get a look at the data that was synced, open the Fitbit App.

  1. The main page of the app is your Dashboard. It displays the number of steps, miles, and total calories burned. All of this is captured by your Fitbit device and synchronized with the Fitbit app.

5. Manual Sync via Windows

After your Fitbit device is setup initially, it will automatically begin synchronizing with your device of choice when it is within 20 feet of it. However, synchronizing your Fitbit manually is also an option by following these steps.

  1. Make sure your Fitbit's USB dongle or cradle is connected to your computer.

  1. In the lower right hand corner of your screen, click the Show Hidden Icons arrow of your Taskbar.

  1. Locate the Fitbit app icon within the system tray.

  1. Hover your mouse pointer over the Fitbit icon and Right Click it. It's context menu will appear.

  1. Select Sync Now to begin a manual synchronization of your Fitbit device.

  1. The Fitbit app will open and begin looking for your Fitbit device to synchronize to.

  1. If prompted, log into your Fitbit account.

  1. You will be presented with a completion screen if the synchronization was successful.

6. Accessing App Dashboard

  1. Open the Fitbit Connect software on your Windows PC or Apple Mac computer.

  1. From here, you will be presented with the Fitbit Dashboard.

7. Manual Sync via Mac

  1. Make sure your Fitbit's USB dongle or cradle is connected to your computer.

  1. Locate and select the Fitbit icon along the upper toolbar of your Mac.

  1. The Fitbit app will open and begin looking for your Fitbit device to synchronize to.
