1. Introduction

  • How to update your D-Link DAP-1650 AC1200 Wi-Fi Range Extender.

You'll Need:

  • A router with the Wi-Fi already set up.
  • A working Internet connection.
  • Your home network's Wi-Fi credentials:
  • Wi-Fi network name (SSID),
  • Wi-Fi password (security key).

2. Firmware Upgrade Using Website

A firmware upgrade should only be carried out over a wired connection between your computer and the router. Do not power off the router at any time during the firmware upgrade procedure, as this may damage the unit.

  1. Launch the browser that you use to go online.

  1. Navigate to https://support.dlink.com/ProductInfo.aspx?m=DAP-1650. This will bring you to the D-link support website for your device.

  1. Select Downloads.

  1. Select the latest firmware download.

  1. When the download finishes select show in folder.

  1. Right-click your download and select extract all.

  1. Leave the window open or make note of the extracted folder location. You'll need it later.

  1. Launch the browser that you use to go online again.

  1. Navigate to https://dlinkap.local and sign in with the default login credentials of the range extender.

  1. The default password is blank. The default username is Admin.
  2. Click Maintenance.

  1. Select Firmware on the left.

  1. Select Browse under Firmware Upgrade.

  1. A new window will open and you'll be able to navigate to and select the BIN file you downloaded and extracted earlier.

  1. Click Open. The firmware will begin to upgrade.

  1. A confirmation window will appear. Click Continue.
  2. The firmware is now upgraded.

3. Firmware Upgrade Using Web Access (Recommended)

  1. Return to your Browser.
  2. Select Browse under Firmware Upgrade.
