How to Update a Panasonic Smart TV

1. Introduction

Firmware updates for Smart TVs are used to enhance current features, fix bugs, and in some cases add additional applications to the device. You can perform the update via USB in order to resolve a problem.

What you'll need:

  • You'll need a computer with an internet connection
  • USB drive with enough free storage space.

2. How to Find the Model Number

It's sometimes helpful to know the model number for your Smart TV. Here are several ways to conveniently locate the model and serial numbers of your SMART TV:

  • On a label on the carton box.

3. Download the latest version

  1. Using a computer that is connected to the internet, open a web browser (such as Safari, Google Chrome or Internet Explorer).
  2. Navigate to http://av.jpn.support.panasonic.com/support/global/cs/tv/download/fw/index.html
  3. Select North America.

  1. Scroll down and click the Download button.

Take note of the file download location:

Windows OS - files typically download to your Downloads folder.
Mac OSX - files typically download to the Downloads folder in the Dock.

4. Extract Zip File

In Windows, files typically download to your "Downloads" folder.

  1. Open Windows Explorer by holding down the Windows Key and then pressing E (Win + E)

  1. In the left pane of the window that opens, click Downloads.

  1. Locate the file you downloaded.
  2. Right-click the file and select Extract All....

  1. The extract window will appear.

  1. Take note of the extract location (folder). If you wish to extract to another location such as a USB drive or a different folder on the computer, click Browse and pick a new location.
  2. Click Extract when you are done.
  3. Once the files are extracted, a new Explorer window will appear with the uncompressed files. The location will be shown in the address bar while the extracted files files will appear below.

Take note of the file location. This is where your file(s) will be extracted to.

5. Move Firmware to USB

Prepare a formatted USB flash memory with more available free space than the self-extracted file.

  1. Insert a USB drive into an available USB slot on your computer.

  1. Locate the file that you extracted earlier.

  1. Right-click on the file, select Send to and then select your USB flash drive in the list.

  1. The firmware will now be copied to the root of your USB drive. This is the first or top-most directory in the hierarchy.

6. Install the Firmware Update

  1. Turn on the TV.
  2. Insert the USB flash memory prepared into the USB 1 input of your TV and press the OK button.

  1. Select YES.

  1. Please wait until download is completed.

  1. When the update is finished, you must perform the following steps:
  2. Remove the USB flash memory from TV.
  3. Turn the TV off at the main power switch.
  4. Turn TV back on at the main power switch.

8. Extract Zip File

In macOS, files typically download to the Downloads folder in the Dock.

  1. Click on Go then Downloads.

  1. Double click on the archive that you just downloaded to extract its contents.

  1. The extracted files should appear in the same folder as the original archive.

Sometimes you may not see the Zip file. Safari may have extracted the file for you if you downloaded the file with it. Just look for the unzipped file or folder.

Take note of the file location for later use of the extracted content.

9. Move Firmware to USB

Prepare a formatted USB flash memory with more available free space than the self-extracted file.

  1. Insert a USB drive into an available USB slot on your computer.

  1. Open the USB drive.

  1. Open the Downloads folder.
  2. In the Downloads folder, locate the firmware you downloaded earlier.
  3. Drag and drop the firmware from the Downloads folder to the root of the USB drive.
