How to Update a YUNEEC Typhoon 4K Drone

To continue, we need to know what Operating System your computer is using.

There are 2 main Operating Systems for personal computers currently available, Microsoft Windows and Apple macOS.

Microsoft Windows Apple macOS
Microsoft Windows runs on computers produced by multiple companies, such as Lenovo, Asus, Dell, Toshiba, Hewlett Packard, Acer, and Sony. Apple is the only company that makes macOS computers.

  1. Open your browser, type in https://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm and press Enter or Return.

  2. Scroll down until you see Currently Supported VCP Drivers. Under Windows select Setup Executable.

  3. The Setup file will begin to download. When finished, open it.

  4. Select Extract All.

  5. Select Extract.

  6. Once extracted, open the file.

  7. Allow the installer to make changes to your system by clicking Yes.

Your Yuneec Typhoon 4K comes with an internal connector that allows you to connect to USB.

  1. Make sure your drone is not on. Power it off if needed.

  3. Locate the receiver inside the body of the drone and gently pull it out.

  4. Disconnect the receiver.

  5. Connect the receiver to the communication adapter.

  6. Hold the wires to one side and insert the battery.

  7. Power on your drone.

  8. Connect the USB to your computer.

Downloading the Firmware

  1. Open your browser, type in https://us.yuneec.com/downloads-typhoon-q500 and press Enter or Return.

  2. Scroll down and select the Typhoon 4K Q500 download.

  3. Your download will be a .bin file. Keep track of where this file is downloaded, you'll need it in a moment.

Installing the Firmware

  1. Open your Q500 GUI software.

  2. Select Device Information.

  3. Select Firmware Update.

  4. The firmware file should be selected. Click Update.

  5. Click Finish when the update is complete.

  6. You will need to restart the drone for the update to take effect.

  3. Click the downloaded file to begin the install.

  4. Click Yes on the User Account Control page.

  5. Select Next.

  9. Decide whether you want to create a desktop shortcut and select Next.

  1. Open your browser, type in https://us.yuneec.com/downloads-typhoon-q500 and press Enter or Return.

  3. Click on the Downloads button, then click on Q500_GUI_MAC.

    • You will most likely get a window saying it won't open because it's from an unidentified developer. That is fine, click on OK.

    • Click on the Apple in the upper left, then click on System Preferences.

    • Click on Open.

  4. Click on Continue.

  5. Click on Continue. Then click on Agree.

  6. Click on Continue.

  8. You might get an account confirmation. Enter in the account password, and click on Install Software.
