How to manually apply updated firmware on your ASUS RP-AC55 Range Extender.
Before We Begin:
Be at your desktop or laptop computer.
Have your Range Extender setup and working properly.
2. Automatic Update
By default, your Asus RP-AC55 Range Extender will automatically update itself when it is not in use; usually overnight.
You do not need to make any changes for this to happen, it takes place automatically by default.
3. OS Choice
To continue, we need to know what Operating System your computer is using.
There are 2 main Operating Systems for personal computers currently available, Microsoft Windows and Apple macOS.

4. Download Firmware (Windows)
The firmware update utility does not work on mobile devices. You must use your desktop or laptop computer to perform the update.
Open your preferred web browser.
In the address bar at top, type in www.asus.com/us/Networking/RP-AC55/HelpDesk_BIOS and press Enter on your keyboard.
Scroll down, and under Firmware, select the Download button to the right.
Once complete, open the download.
Select the TRX file inside, then select Extract at the top.
From the menu that opens, select Extract All.
You'll be asked where you'd like to extract the file. The default location is fine. Select Extract.
Make note of the exact location where the file is being extracted, you will need this information later!
The extracted file will be shown.
You may want to leave this window open, to remember where you extracted the file easily.
5. Update Firmware
Open your preferred web browser.
In the address bar at top, type in repeater.asus.com and press Enter or Return on your keyboard.
Enter your Username and Password to administer your Range Extender.
By default, the username and password is:
Username: admin
Password: admin
Select the Version Number at the top.
Select Choose File, then select the file you downloaded before.
Select Upload.
Wait while the firmware updates.
This can take three minutes or more.
When the update is complete, it may ask you to reboot your Range Extender. Turn off the Range Extender, wait ten seconds, then turn it back on.
Your range extender is now up-to-date.
6. Download Firmware (macOS)
The firmware update utility does not work on mobile devices. You must use your desktop or laptop computer to perform the update.
Open your preferred web browser.
In the address bar at top, type in www.asus.com/us/Networking/RP-AC55/HelpDesk_BIOS and press Return on your keyboard.
Scroll down, and under Firmware, select the Download button to the right.
Safari browser will automatically extract the file for you. Select to Show Downloads, then select to Show In Finder for the download.
The extracted file will be shown.
You may want to leave this window open, to remember where you extracted the file easily.
