How to Use Airplane Mode iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch

1. Introduction

This guide will show you how to toggle on/off the Airplane Mode on your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch to suspend or resume all wireless communication.

You can override Airplane Mode and still turn on wireless communication features individually.

2. Toggle Airplane Mode

There are three ways to toggle Airplane mode on or off on your iOS device:

Ask Siri

  1. Say: "Hey Siri"
  2. Wait a moment for Siri to indicate she's listening, then say "Turn on/off Airplane Mode."

Using Control Center

  1. Open the Control Center.

On iPhone X or later, or iPad with iOS 12 or later

  • Swipe down from the top right corner of the screen.

On iPhone 8 or earlier, iPad with iOS 11 or earlier

  • Swipe up from the bottom of the screen.

  1. Tap the Airplane Mode icon to turn it on.

  1. The Airplane Mode icon will switch to orange once it's turned On and all other communication icons will switch to grey.

  1. To turn Airplane Mode off, simply tap the icon again.

From Settings

  1. Open Settings on your phone or tablet.

  1. Tap the toggle switch to the right of Airplane Mode to turn it on.

  1. With Airplane Mode turned On, all the wireless communication radios will be turned off.

  1. To turn Airplane Mode off, simply tap the toggle switch again.
