1. Introduction

As shown in our set up guide of the Sol lamp, it is Amazon Alexa enabled. This means you can use your lamp as a means to make use of Amazon's personal digital assistant Alexa in your home. This guide will go over what features are available to you as an Alexa enabled device.

2. Control the Lamp Using Alexa

During the set up process for your Sol lamp, it was added to your Amazon account and the C by GE skill was enabled at the same time. This means your Sol lamp is ready to accept commands from and be controlled by your voice.

As you would expect, you can ask Alexa to turn your Sol on and off, dim it up or down, or change its color temperature from an orange-ish, soft white to a bright white daylight tone. Unlike other Amazon Echo devices, the Sol's light ring will provide visual indications with Alexa interaction instead of just Alexa's voice alone.

The Sol lamp does have two notable limitations that other Amazon Echo devices do not share:

• Other Alexa users cannot be called through the Sol lamp. For that, you'll need to utilize an Amazon Echo, the smaller Echo Dot, or the touchscreen-equipped Echo show.
• The Sol lamp does not support Amazon's ESP (Echo Spatial Perception) feature. This feature helps when there are multiple Alexa-enabled devices in a home. With ESP, only the speaker that's closest to you will respond to your voice commands. Without this feature being present in the Sol lamp, it is possible that voice commands may engage both the lamp and another Alexa-enabled device nearby at the same time if they're close enough to one another. One way to avoid this is to change Alexa's name, allowing it to respond to a specific 'wake word' that won't engage other Alexa-enabled devices. The following guide can help you accomplish this if you're having difficulty in your home because of the lack of ESP:
