Authored by: Support.com Tech Pro Team

1. Introduction

Version 13 of iOS introduces a new feature called QuickPath that allows you to write in a different way with the on-screen keyboard. Instead of tapping on each letter, you simply slide your finger over the letters of each word you want to write.

iOS 13 is available on iPhone 6S and later and iPod Touch 7 and later. Starting with this version all iPad lines will get a new operating system called iPadOS that is derived from iOS but optimized for tablets which have much larger screens and other additional features. iPadOS 13 is available on iPad Air 2, iPad Mini 4, iPad Pro and iPad 5 and later.

This guide will show you how to use QuickPath on your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch.

  1. When you lift your finger you can start a new word. You don't need to tap the space bar.
  2. If the wrong word shows up, choose the right word from the Prediction Bar above the keyboard.

If you're using an iPad, you'll need to shrink the on-screen keyboard to be able to write with QuickPath.

3. Shrink the On-Screen Keyboard on iPad

Writing with the on-screen keyboard on an iPad can be slow and even frustrating due to it stretching on the entire width of the screen. This makes it take up a big part of the screen as well hiding a lot of your text. To make things easier and allow you to write faster, you can shrink the on-screen keyboard.

  1. Place two fingers apart from each other on the on-screen keyboard and draw them together as if you were pinching the screen.

  1. You will get an iPhone sized keyboard. Drag it anywhere on the screen with the handle below the space bar.

  1. To expand it back to its normal size, place two fingers on the on-screen keyboard and draw them apart as if you were stretching the screen.
