How to Use the Sylvania Smart Home App

1. Introduction

Pair and control your Sylvania Smart+ Bluetooth lighting, and connect it to your Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, or directly from your smartphone when in-range.

Tools You'll Need:

  • Access to a computer with iTunes installed
  • Any other non-consumable tools needed

Supported Devices

Sylvania offers a number of different products, each with a slightly different way they are used.

Bluetooth Products

Bluetooth

The Sylvania Smart Home App can be used to control the Bluetooth line of Smart+ bulbs.

Zigbee and Lightify Products

Zigbee

Zigbee bulbs in the Sylvania Smart+ line depend on your Zigbee hub which is a separate product, and do not use the Sylvania Smart Home App.

Supported Apps

This guide covers using the Sylvania Smart Home app. It is entirely possible to use your bulbs without Sylvania's app. If you are using one of the other major systems to control your bulbs, we have guides available to help with those apps, instead.

Google Assistant

Google Assistant
If you setup or use Google Home or Google Assistant automation most often, it may be best to stick with the Google Home app.

HomeKit Icon

If you setup or use Google Home automation most often, you may want to use the HomeKit app instead.

Amazon Alexa app icon

Amazon Alexa or Echo
If you setup or prefer using your Alexa or Echo system to control your lights, you can use the Alexa app.

Sylvania Smart+ App

This guide will focus on the app provided by Sylvania.

2. Add a Group

The Sylvania Smart+ app is group-based, meaning it relies on you setting up groups, or rooms, to control your devices together in each room you setup.

  1. Open the Sylvania Smart+ app, and select + Add A Group at the top.

  1. Either enter a name for your new room, or select one from the list.

  1. Once added, you'll be taken to your now empty group, ready to add a light.

3. Add a Light

Once you have your groups, or rooms, setup, you can add your lights.

  1. Open the Sylvania Smart+ app, and select Devices for one of your groups.

  1. Screw in your light bulb, and turn on the power.

  1. Your light should flash to indicate it's reset, and ready to pair.
  2. Color Bulb

  1. Color bulbs will flash blue, red, green, then white to indicate it's ready to pair.
  2. White Bulbs

  1. White bulbs will flash dim and bright a few times to indicate it's ready to pair.
  2. If your lamp doesn't flash
  3. Reset your bulb by turning it off, then on again five times rapidly.

  1. Select + Add A Device.

  1. The app will scan for your new bulb. Follow the instructions on screen to complete adding your new bulb.

4. Control Lights

The Sylvania Smart+ app allows you to adjust a whole room of lights, or each light individually.

Directly from the home screen are on / off switches for each of your room.

Each room has a brightness and color control to the bottom right of its tile.

Smart+

Adjust Individual Light

  1. Select Devices in the room where your light is located.

  1. Select the device you'd like to adjust.
  2. Use the color diamond, brightness slider, on and off to adjust your light. The toggle on the top-right lets you choose between a full color diamond and a white balance diamond.
