How to Use TP-Link Smart Bulb with Kasa Smart App

1. Introduction

Within this guide you will learn how to use your TP-Link Kasa Smart Light Bulbs using the Kasa Smart app. Turn your lights on and off remotely or schedule them to turn on and off automatically at desired times, set their brightness and color you prefer, and configure the light bulb settings to best suit your needs.

Before You Begin:

Your light bulb needs to be set up

2. Control TP-Link Kasa Light Bulb with the App

Available features and options may vary slightly based on the bulb's model number.The mobile app layout may also vary based on the installed version or mobile operating system.

  1. Launch the Kasa Smart app.

  1. When you launch the app, it will show all your smart home devices including your bulbs. From this view you can turn the bulbs on or off by tapping the toggle button to the right of their name.

Customize Brightness and Colors

  1. Tap a bulb's name to bring up the lighting customization options.
  2. From there you can change the brightness level with the horizontal slider.

  1. And choose a different color from the color picker area.

  1. For advanced color customization tap More Colors.

  1. On the White tab you can select a pre-defined color temperature.

  1. Switch to fine tuning by tapping the circle in the top right corner.

  1. Or tap Auto-White to let the bulb change its color automatically based on the time of the day.

  1. On the Color tab you can select from a multitude of pre-defined colors.

  1. Or you can switch to fine tuning by tapping the circle in the top right corner.

Use and Customize Color Presets

  1. Back on the bulb options screen you can also choose or configure Presets.

  1. You can switch between preset colors or recently used ones from the tabs at the top.

  1. Or customize the presets the way you prefer by tapping the pencils to the right of the color swatches.

Schedule Automated Events

  1. To automate events tap Schedule on the bulb options screen.

  1. You can choose to let your lighting operate automatically at any time and on any day:
  2. Turn the light on with the color automatically matching the time of day
  3. Turn it on in the last state the light was set to before it was turned off
  4. Turn it on in a preset or custom color
  5. Or even turn it off.

Check the Energy Usage

  1. To check your bulb's energy usage tap Usage on the bulb options screen.

  1. You'll be able to see the daily, weekly and monthly usage as well as a yearly usage prediction.

Configure the Light Bulb

  1. To access the general bulb configuration, tap Settings in the top right corner.

  1. From here you can configure bulb settings, such as:
  2. Remote Control - Choose whether you want to be able to control the light while you're away from home
  3. Device Name - Set the bulb name and location
  4. Device Icon - Set a custom icon for the bulb, to recognize it easier in the app
  5. Default States - Set the states in which the light should turn on, when it's turned on from the app or the main power switch.
