1 Introduction: Chromebook: Repair App Issues
This guide will walk you through troubleshooting problems with apps on your Chromebook.
2 Chromebook: Restart
There are 2 main ways to restart your Chromebook. The first method is preferred.
Shut Down From Menus
- Select the User menu by clicking your profile picture in the bottom-right corner.
- Select the Power symbol. Your Chromebook will turn off.
- Wait 10 seconds.
- Push the Power Button on your Chromebook to turn it back on.
Shut Down With Hardware
- Push and hold the Power Button on your keyboard for 10 seconds.
- Wait 10 seconds.
- Push the Power Button on your Chromebook to turn it back on.

This guide will walk you through troubleshooting problems with apps on your Chromebook.
There are 2 main ways to restart your Chromebook. The first method is preferred.
Shut Down From Menus
- Select the User menu by clicking your profile picture in the bottom-right corner.
- Select the Power symbol. Your Chromebook will turn off.
- Wait 10 seconds.
- Push the Power Button on your Chromebook to turn it back on.
Shut Down With Hardware
- Push and hold the Power Button on your keyboard for 10 seconds.
- Wait 10 seconds.
- Push the Power Button on your Chromebook to turn it back on.
- Open Google Chrome.
- In the address bar at the top, type www.google.com, then push the Enter key on your keyboard. The Google search page should come up.
- Try entering something in the search bar, then select Google Search.
- Your search results should open up. If they do, you are connected to the Internet.
- Select your profile picture in the lower-right corner.
- Select Settings.
- Scroll to the very bottom and select Advanced.
- Continue to scroll down and select Clear browsing data.
- Select Advanced at the top.
- For Time range, select All time.
- Scroll down, and make sure there is a check mark for Hosted app data. Then select Clear data.
Your Chromebook automatically checks for updates on startup. This step will walk you through checking manually.
- Select the User menu by clicking your profile picture in the bottom-right corner.
- Select Settings.
- Select the Menu in the top-left.
- Select About Chrome OS or About Chromium OS on the bottom left of the menu.
- Select Check For Updates.
- If your device is up-to-date, it will show that here.
- If there is an update pending, you will be asked to reboot. Choose to reboot, and your device will reboot and update on its own.
The next step is to uninstall, and reinstall the app.
If the service the app is associated with requires a username and password, you will have to re-enter it.
- Select the Apps menu in the bottom-left corner.
- Select the up arrow ^ to show all your apps.
- To delete an app, using your right mouse button, right click on the app. A menu will open. Select Remove from Chrome, or Remove from Chromium.
- Select Remove.
- Open the Web Store, or Google Play Store.
- Browse the store, or search for the app you want in the search box.
- When you find the app you want, select Add to Chrome, or Buy (if it is a paid-for app), on the right.
- Select Add app.
- Your app will download and install. You'll find it in the full App Drawer in the bottom-left corner.
