Repair Issues with Your Nikon D5300 Companion App

1. Introduction: Nikon WirelessMobileUtility: Nikon D5300: Repair Basic Issues

Your Nikon D5300 camera is an amazing camera platform which provides excellent, reliable shots of incredible quality.

The WirelessMobileUtility software extends the capabilities of your camera, allowing you the freedom to move away from the camera itself, but still line up, take the shot, and adjust on-the-fly, as well as reviewing the stills and movies you've taken recently, to be sure you've got the images you need with the ease of the touch-screen interface of your phone or tablet.

This guide will walk you through the basic troubleshooting steps to get Nikon WirelesMobileUtility working again with your Nikon D5300 Camera.

2. Android: Restart

  1. Hold down the power button on your Android device.
    Depending on the manufacturer and model of Android device you have, the location of the power button will vary.
  2. A prompt will appear on-screen. Select Restart.

If the menu does not pop up, continue to hold the power button, and your Android device will shut off.

  • If you had to shut down your Android device, wait 30 seconds before turning your device back on.

3. Nikon D5300: Restart

  1. Turn off the camera.

  2. Turn the camera back on.

4. Android: Enable Bluetooth

  1. Swipe down on your screen (or up, if using a tablet) to access the menu.
  2. Hold down on the Bluetooth icon to bring up Bluetooth options.

5. Android: Enable Location

This app requires location services to be enabled on your device to function properly.

  1. Open Settings on your phone or tablet.

6. Nikon WirelessMobileUtility: Test

  1. Launch WirelessMobileUtility on your device.

7. Android: System Update

  1. Open Settings on your phone or tablet.

  1. You'll see if there's any updates available, as well as when your device last checked for updates. If you wish, you can choose Check for update to make sure.

  1. If an update is available, you can download and install it here.Do not turn off your phone during an update, it can result in serious problems that would require a specially-qualified technician to fix.

8. Nikon WirelessMobileUtility: Test

  1. Launch WirelessMobileUtility on your device.

9. Nikon WirelessMobileUtility: Uninstall Android

  1. Press and hold the WirelessMobileUtility icon till a menu opens up.

10. Nikon WirelessMobileUtility: Install Android App

  1. Launch the Play Store on your smartphone.

  1. Type in "WirelessMobileUtility", then select WirelessMobileUtility from the list.

  1. Select Install.

  1. This app requires extra permissions, listed here. Select Accept.

  1. Select Open to open the app now, if you wish.

We will return to the app in a moment, our next step is to enable pairing mode on your camera.

11. Nikon D5300: Pairing Registration

  1. Press the Menu button.

Make note of the SSID listed here; you'll need it for the phone in just a moment.

12. Nikon WirelessMobileUtility: Pair to Phone

  1. Launch the Wireless Mobile Utility app on your device.

  1. Carefully read the licence agreement. When you are ready, select Yes at the bottom.

  1. If necessary, turn on Wi-Fi at the top. Look through the list, and select the network name displayed on your camera.

  1. Return to the Wireless Mobile Utility app once connected.

13. Nikon WirelessMobileUtility: Test

  1. Launch WirelessMobileUtility on your device.

15. iOS: Restart

Powering off an iPhone.
  1. Hold down the lock/power button.
  2. Slide to power off when prompted.
  3. Wait until the phone is off.
  4. Hold down the lock/power button until you see the Apple logo.

16. Nikon D5300: Restart

  1. Turn off the camera.

17. iOS: Enable Bluetooth

  1. Open Settings on your phone or tablet.

18. iOS: Enable Location

This app requires location services to be enabled on your device to function properly.

  1. Open Settings on your phone or tablet.

  1. Make sure Location Services is turned On at the top. Look through the list of programs below, and make sure Cam Remote has "While Using" or "Always" selected.

19. Nikon WirelessMobileUtility: Test

  1. Launch WirelessMobileUtility on your device.

20. iOS: Update via Wi-Fi

  1. Connect your phone or tablet to power to charge.
  2. Make sure you are connected to Wi-Fi.
  3. Open Settings on your phone or tablet.

  2. If prompted, enter your passcode.

21. Nikon WirelessMobileUtility: Test

  1. Launch WirelessMobileUtility on your device.

22. Nikon WirelessMobileUtility:Uninstall iOS

  1. Press and hold the WirelessMobileUtility icon till the icons start vibrating.

23. Nikon WirelessMobileUtility: Install iOS App

  1. Open the App Store.
