Set Up Parental Controls for Netgear Orbi Mesh WiFi

1. Introduction

Keeping tabs on your kids activity online is important. Your Netgear Orbi router can help. Partnering with Circle, your Router provides powerful parental controls to keep you in charge.

Before You Begin:

The Circles App allows you to control the parental settings on your router. If you don't already have it installed, select the link below to get Circles.

2. Enable Circle on Netgear

The Circle app will guide you through the initial setup of your Parental Controls on your Netgear router.

  1. Open the Circle app, and select Get Started.

  1. Select Next.

  1. Circle will detect your Orbi router, select Enable Circle.

  1. Once enabled select Yes! to start the setup process.

  1. Enter your Netgear Router's username and password, then select Login.

  1. You set this up when you first setup your Router.Defaults:Username:adminPassword:password
  2. Circle will enable on your router.

  1. This can take a few minutes, the screen will automatically move forward when your router is ready.
  2. After Circle is enabled, select Let's Rock! to continue.

  1. Now you'll be setting up your Circle account. Enter your name and email address, then select Continue.

  1. Enter your phone number, then select Next.

  1. Carefully select and read the License Agreement and Privacy Policy. Once you've read and agree to these, select Create Account.

  1. The Circle app will connect your router, Circle account, and the app on your phone.

  1. Again, this can take a few minutes, the screen will automatically move forward when everything is ready.
  2. Once everything is setup, select Awesome! to complete the setup process.

3. Using Circle

This guide will help you through the three main functions of parental control available in Circle; Filter, Time Limits, and Bedtime.

Filter

Filter.

You can set the filtering level for each family member you setup.

Filtering Choices.

Kid

Best for kids six to 12 years old. Educational websites and other kid-safe websites are allowed, but items for older kids, like social media, are blocked.

Teen

Best for teens 13 to 17 years old. Most apps are available, but items deemed adult in nature are invisible or blocked.

Adult

Most items are allowed, though explicit and mature content is filtered.

None

Allows access to all content.

Time Limits

Time Limits.

Time Limits can be used to set how long members of your home can use a particular app or program, or the Internet as a whole.

You can choose to limit times on each app, or the time on the Internet as a whole directly under the portrait.

Don't forget to select Save when done making changes!

Bedtime

Bedtime.

Setting a bedtime disables all Internet access when your family member should be asleep.

  1. Select the days of the week the schedule should apply (for example, Sunday through Thursday for school nights).
  2. Select the Bed Time and Awake Time.
  3. Select Save to enable the schedule.
